Thanks for a great bug adjustment video. One of the best I have seen, particularly the way you show the effect of the dot stop screw and narrowing the dot gap. I sometimes have problems with bounce, and I think this may help with that - by making the pendulum swing less aggressive. Jim N4TMM

I too have a KWM-2 powered by an HP-23A! I created a custom patch cable. I powered the filaments off 12.6V instead of 6.3. Less current to run through the cable. My biggest problem was the B+ 275V. The HP-23 had two settings - one too high, and the other one too low. I set it to the "too high" setting, and put a high voltage regulator to take it down to 275. Before the regulator, I put in a long string of rectifier diodes to scrub excess voltage. I forget exactly how many, it was something like 50 of them.

The Drake 4 line were my favorite receivers. I've owned an R-4, a B, and a C. Don't believe I had an "A." And a mix of transmitters. They were severely damaged in a fire in the the early 2000's. I doubt I will ever get another. I am 75 and getting more inactive.

Point Reyes or the Maritime Radio Historical Society hosts an event called the Night of Nights every year on July 12th for all radio enthusiasts to monitor CW and RTTY broadcasts during the day. I've received a couple very nice confirmation certificates for participating and they were gracious to accept my reception reports even though I can't do CW. Monitored stations KPH, KFS and K6KPH on my shortwave radio.

I had a 10 band old sony radio as a kid in the 80s. Earth Orbiter I think it was. I always wondered why the heck all this beep beep beep stuff was being transmitted.

Interesting comparison. I prefer the thicker sound of the front facing Icom speaker. On the other video I noticed the IC-7200 has an AGC/noise response that I prefer compared to the FT-891. Maybe it’s your settings. I find that most modern AGC are setup to boost everything (including no signal noise) as opposed to allowing the user to set the no signal volume and then let the AGC limit the stronger signals. Maybe I’m expecting an AGC to do what a compressor/limiter does but I’m tempted to build a photoelectric compressor to put in the audio chain for shack use or perhaps fit into an external speaker. Thanks again for posting 73 John

Quite the shack there! Sorry for the unrelated question but how do you rate the receiver of the IC-7200 vs the FT-891? I’m comfortable with front panel and deep dive menu rigs. Just curious about your experience with weak signals and adjacent strong signals, audio etc. I ask because I was intending to get an FT-891 (or perhaps even the FT-897 - costly options scared me away) but when I saw the insides of the IC-7200 I decided it is a must have and picked one up on the auctions over here as the FT-891 will still be easy to get hold of at a later date.
@N2FQ8 ай бұрын
I'll make a side by side video for you. To me they are comparable on receive but give the 891 a point more. The 891 has a few extra function that the 7200 doesn't have. I have also replaced the fans as in the IC-7200 by the way.
@Tokyo1991.JL1AJE8 ай бұрын
@@N2FQ That would be most welcome. I've subscribed after watching quite a few of your videos on 7200 mods and your focus on audio quality and silent running etc.

I tried to make a comparison. Not very good but hope you enjoy them. I like the IC-7200 and so have two of them. The front facing speaker is the way to go. Take care. @@Tokyo1991.JL1AJE

cool! ive always wanted to learn how to use old military radios but dont even know where to get started. Any tips?
@N2FQ9 ай бұрын
Military radio is a hobby in itself. I stay away from them, simply because most parts are one of and custom made. Particularly the PCB, which are made to satisfy a contract and not made thereafter. However, speakers are available and economical. The only issue is that they are made for 600 Ω impedance. They use an 8 Ω speaker and a transformer to step it up to 600 Ω for the military radios. Fernando
@claramuntoukbrautigam97177 ай бұрын
Milltary radio all about use 600 ohms, why it's use headphone combines okay Most military radio receivers use 600 ohm because headphones are 600 ohm.

Yes.. If you can find the crystal pack (CP-1). Or you can find individual crystals. For example...30M.. need a 13155.00khz. See this list : s88932719.onlinehome.us/Collins_CP-1_Crystals_List.htm.
