Nice video. I'm thinking of staying here myself, but I'm wondering where you left your vehicle? The Pont Tyne Y Groes car park nearby states no overnight parking.
@oxwichadventuresКүн бұрын
Hi, if you pull off the main road into the car park, keep driving through the car park onto the small road and head south, keep driving round to the other side of the hill and you'll find a spot where you can park off the road (it's just past the forestry road that you're not allowed to drive on, the forestry road is on the left as you drive past it, and the park spot is on the left, opposite a right hand turn. Park there then walk north/west up a footpath and you'll get onto the forestry road then keep walking up to the bothy.

Agreed, it's a real problem, especially with modern lifestyles, not getting enough actual direct sunlight (because through windows is not good enough), many people are deficient in vitamin D, plus direct sunlight during sun rise and sun set helps to set our circadian rhythm to help with sleep and waking. I've taken AG1 organic wholefoods supplement for a long time now (includes a Vitamin D drop), and I also make sure to get outside throughout the day (for daylight as well as exercise and movement).

Hey Eddie, thanks for the message. Totally with you on it being tough not seeing my son every week. Although, I now see it as having proper quality time every week because we both know it's only 7 days at a time. It's also helped me to stop worrying about the small stuff, focus on what's important. We've had tons of adventures, and we help each other to grow, and most of that didn't happen when we were together all the time as a family.

@oxwichadventures25 күн бұрын
Thanks Tony. Agreed. Water absolutely needs to be accessible to everyone, but it's so important that we all know it's important, especially as the water companies say that if habits don't change then there will be water shortages in the 2030s (already seeing this now in some areas in the UK, and certainly already happening in other countries). Not being able to just "turn-on-the-tap" and getting most of my water from rivers, streams, rain, has helped me to appreciate it. Plus, I avoid drinking chlorinated water with all the other things in that can't be cleaned by the water companies (who are also responsible for dumping LOADS of sewage into our water ways (hence I avoid these places when getting wild water). I've just started getting water mainly from natural springs, and the one at Malvern is always gushing out (I feel bad I can't turn it off when it's not being used ;-)

Thanks for the advice. That will be helpful. I've really liked the Renogy litium ion battery, especially as I can connect through bluetooth to see the amount of charge as well as other stats. I just have to be aware of how the battery works as it gets down to 5'C and less.

How long does the engine usually take to start on freezing cold mornings? Does it take longer when it hasn't been used for several days?
@oxwichadventures3 ай бұрын
When it's super cold I usually start up and leave it running while I'm packing up, turning off the gas, which takes about 5 to 10 mins then I'll just drive gently. It can then take another 10 minutes of driving for the engine temperature to come up.

Winter 2024/25 coming up, my lithium batteries aren’t heated. I’m somewhat concerned, thinking what to do. Yes, I think 5°C is the minimum to charge up your lithium batteries although will discharge down to °0 C. More or less got told this was some gimmick (heated batteries) where I got my solar lithium installed - hmmm 🤔. So if you’ve got a podcast James, I’ll definitely check it out, because I’m coming up to a year living in a motorhome myself.
@oxwichadventures3 ай бұрын
The Renogy self-heating battery will heat up when it gets down to 5'C but it needs an external power source, such as the engine being started and charge coming from the alternator. This is good and has worked well, but tricky in the middle of the night as I don't know when I need to start the engine as I'm asleep. My plan is to leave the diesel heater on super low on nights when it might be 5'C or less as I had a small heater piper installed from the diesel heater to the battery box, plus I had the battery insulated. I have a thermometer in the motorhome and usually the motorhome temperature is the same as the battery in the battery box. You're welcome to checkout my podcast here on my KZbin channel, the theme is "a year in a motorhome" that I started from January 2024. I've certainly learnt a lot along the way. Good luck with your journey...

We’ve tried to aim for 16 degrees. We have to adjust each year after Summer gets us used to 18/20+ without heating on. Added bonus…you burn more calories if you can get used to a slightly lower temperature!
@oxwichadventures4 ай бұрын
Yeah 16C is a good minimum to be comfortable. Last winter was tough as I was keeping the heater off most of the time (waking up to -4C and -2C) and it wasn't nice. I also realised the lithium ion leisure battery starts shutting down at +5C so this year I'm going to try keeping the heating on super low through the night and day.

Do you consume the water or is it used for showering, boiling etc? If you do drink it, do you boil/purify first?
@oxwichadventures7 ай бұрын
Yeah, that's why the LifeSaver Jerrycan is so good as it can filter any wild water for drinking (I'm not sure about radioactive etc. as I'm sure there are limits). I do also use their showerhead attachment for washing dishes and showering. For drinking, the taste is better when the quality of the water is better, e.g. water from a mountain river or waterfall is much tastier than water from a waterbutt or lowland river (I actually avoid lowland rivers as we have problems in the UK with water companies dumping sewage into rivers and brooks so I go with water from streams etc. when I'm not properly in the wild).

The only environmental problem this planet has is Too. Many. People. You're not going to save the planet by saving a gallon Diesel here and there. Not breeding and getting the world population back down under 1 billion will fix just about every environmental problems, including the imaginary ones.
@oxwichadventures9 ай бұрын
I agree that the population can't keep growing as it is, and David Attenborough's "A Life on Our Planet" explains this well. However, it's also crucial to shift our lifestyles away from consumerism and waste. By approaching life with compassion for ourselves and others and being conscious of our impact, we can collectively strive to leave the planet better than we found it (considering the future that I leave for my son is a big personal driver for me). Every step toward a more sustainable way of living, however small, can contribute to a healthier future for us all.
