I studied classical voice in college. Here's my take: The final notes are really good! Actually all of his high notes are good. His mid to mid high range is a bit stiff and doesn't have the legato you would want for this genre. I'm not sure how he was coached but I feel like he should be able to achieve this proper vocal flexibility and legato. Perhaps his coaching focused more on ping/cut (forward resonance) and vocal power which he definitely demonstrates.

Here in 2024 remembering Bernie, Darius and Meatloaf. All amazing, all taken far too soon. I remember watching this at the time and marvelling at their talent and wonderful personalities. So sad, but fantastic all the same. Rest in peace every dear one. x 💖

I don't know what sort of training Bernie had when she was young, but for someone who made a career singing pop music, this is very impressive. She is not exactly young here, but she manages to sustain a high C and even sing the high D in the short cadenza. Of all the contestants, she one of the ones who comes closest to an operatically projected sound, so maybe she did have some classical voice training early in her life.

not bad at all- similar to D. Damrau- she is a dramatic coloratura soprano- she has a dark, full, big tone
