@I-Like-Basket-Ball2 күн бұрын
I really hope that if we’re good, we sell instead of pushing further along. With how deep next year’s draft class is and how contracts are starting to look, and will look in a few seasons, the Raptors really need a good player on a great deal. That’s not me doubting RJ, IQ, or Gradey, but rather putting ourselves in a very good position to potentially get Scottie- I don’t even want to say a more concrete second option because that sounds pretty harsh, especially since I believe in all of those players. But what if Immanuel Quickley long-term doesn’t work out, or if RJ doesn’t take that leap and they’re still on the books? Those are guys that can still be very, very good role players, so it isn’t an issue, but to take that next step(as a team), Scottie might need someone else. There are a few guys at the top of next year’s draft who could easily fill that role. However, if Scottie takes a huge leap and both RJ and Immanuel Quickley are right behind him, I genuinely don’t know what to do come the trade deadline, especially if we’re good. The only thing I would consider is trading super long-term picks, but that’s always risky, and I’m not usually a fan of doing that.

Not tanking the Chet year or the Banchero year was a mistake. I hope they trade Poeltl some time this season for assets and tank for someone in this upcoming draft class. RJ and IQ are great but imo we need a proper star potential prospect to help Scottie.

Masai warned us it would tough, that's the rebuild era has to be, we're gonna lose a lot of games probably this year, I know it sucks but let's be honest, we could not attract super star in FA, we only could develop them from scratch ( Siakam-FVV), get them from trade ( Kawhi, Kyle) but trading a good player became more and more pricy ( 5 first rnd for Gobert or M Bridge!!!), so the easiest way to get a superstar for a team like raptors is clearly being in a lottery draft pick, Barnes year 3 is already an all star, I think it's the path that we need to follow even it will ruin one or two season of BBQ, that's why Masai locked their contract for at least 3 seasons together, trust me if we get a top 5 next draft we're good in Barnes prime years (25yo to 30yo)
@davidsam9932 күн бұрын
they wanna tank but didn't want to lose ticket revenue so needed to play good game at home. that's why the final spot last year was barely top six and obviously the lottery put us 8th seed

Traded Jak cuz fo didnt think they lost Fred at that point and plus no one expected Fred got 40m offer from Rockets. I dont think Jak is that overpaid considering how much Claxton, Hatenstein and Zubac get paid this yr. I dont like Jak trade itself. That happend on wrong timing and direction but anyway he is now one of the most valuable player on current roster. Jak is total non shooter, cant create own shot but the value of facillitating big who can play as dho hub has been increasing since 2020. He is great dho hub, roll man and still solid defender. We were 4w 28l without Jak last season.
@pensarebasketball2 күн бұрын
A lot of the (without Jak) games were also without Quickley, without RJ and without Scottie. Sometimes all 3. He's at best an average starting C. That's not something that's worth 15-17% of your cap space. I get your point about Claxton but he's also 24 years old playing for a horrible team who likely overpaid to keep him around. Jak will be 29 when the season starts. There is upside/downside baked into contracts.

@@pensarebasketball on January splits without Jak, Scottie, Rj and Iq played all together almost every game but still 2w 9l. Starting Big costs around 20m or more these days. I'm glad the NBA gave us a very tough schedule for the start of the season. By February we will see which direction we are taking. The results will tell us if we are good enough for the play-in. If not then it will be easy to tank the rest of the season to get a good draft pick. Me, personally, I'm hoping for the former that we shine and surprise many teams under coach Darko this season.

I thought we all knew they were retiring Vince since early last season? I didn't think it was even a question of will they. I was just waiting for the date to be announced. It was obvious this was going to happen for the 30th. When Masai or Bobby, or Dan might have been asked about that, they all had that coy smirk like "oh, we can't give details but we have plans in store to celebrate the anniversary." And if there was still any doubt, once they released that Vince dunk Raptor logo, that made it as clear as it possibly could be.

I enjoyed this live. Every year there are so many questions and what-ifs that we plan to revisit down the road but just forget about. Finally seeing how things pan out is one of the most enjoyable part of following sports for me. And of course, theorizing about what could have been. Now, on to the Scottie thing. This doesn't look like a typical case of the star accidentally getting some one-nighter pregnant and ruining his life. He already broke up with his girlfriend and he seems to actually like this woman. "Life with you" is what he said. Let the man be be happy. The spurned ex-gf has her side of the story, but why go public with it? Is she a narcissist? Or does she want "her" cut of that big contract? I can't think of any other reason to do what she did. And I absolutely hate the clear racial resentment. Who cares what race she is!
@pensarebasketball3 күн бұрын
She's clout-chasing. Which is sad because Scottie's a generally good dude and I doubt he's done anything to warrant this type of public response. I'm sure she regrets it within 3 years, but emotions make us do silly things.
