In Itachi's position Id have killed Danzo immediately with Amaterasu to erase all evidence. Then the elders go down. Shisui's eye goes to Kotoamatsukami on Hiruzen to step down and give in to the Uchiha. Any other dissenters including Kakashi get fried. Then escape the village with Sasuke and raise him in the wild.

The fact that the truth is coming from an Uchiha hits different. When Tobi said he was Madara, that was a hard pill to swallow. Knowing his true identity makes me feel as if he was honoring Itachi while telling the story.
