I'm picking up my touring XT tomorrow. It has a factory wireless charger, but I think it was installed at the dealer as there was the parts shortage. I say this, because in the back of the car, I found the removed parts for the wireless charger. I will have to see how much I like the wireless charger and whether or not I take it out and put back in the original parts.
@MicroOutdoors10 ай бұрын
Hopefully they have upgraded the parts!

Pretty simple to do and I am not a mechanic. I have a 2023, and the wiring was slightly different. There was only 1 main wire terminal to reconnect after I took out the wireless charger. Hint - when putting in the new base, the first screw to put in should be that one at the end which was the hardest to remove. I have a Wilderness edition and the wireless charger is part of the package. It overheats the phone and provides very little charging. There also is no other convenient spot to place my phone other than the wireless pad. I prefer to use a cable which charges faster without the heat. I'm really glad to be rid of it. The dealer where I bought the car wouldn't do it for me.

Great tutorial man, really well done. I didn't get the wireless charger in my special order OBW because its kinda pointless when ill always be tethered with CarPlay which charges anyway. HOWEVER, for 2023 Subaru will have wireless CarPlay and that makes a wireless charger worth having!
@Currahee_19442 жыл бұрын
Great video I didn’t even think of this despite not being a fan of this charger. If I’m using CarPlay for maps I’m already plugged in. So this is really only useful when I have friends in the car who need a quick charge. Definitely going to try removing the rubber mat. Would be interested to hear if you know anything about turning off the auto engine shutoff feature when idling. Wish I could set it to permanently off. That and the rear seatbelt reminder ! My setting is in the off position yet it keeps beepin with our dogs!
@HomesteadOnThePreserve2 жыл бұрын
I heard from a couple sources that the AESO feature ALWAYS defaults back on. Why don't you like that feature? Ive read before that people want to permanently disable it also. My special order OBW should be here soon and then I'll see if I am added to the list of people that hate it.
@Currahee_19442 жыл бұрын
@@HomesteadOnThePreserve correct it always resets back to “on” after powering the car on and off. It doesn’t do much for me. The car literally shows a metric of fuel “saved” when the car is idling and engine shuts down. In 5k total miles I’m at about a gallon and a half “saved. “ - just is irritating in city driving. The OBW is a bit wobbly too when the function turns on and off. I just purchased a transmission wobble insert from ADF and am excited to see how it works. Still love the OBW. Just dialing it in to perfection
@MicroOutdoors2 жыл бұрын
The auto off is an EPA "deal" to allow sales in the US for "pour" mpg. (Politics...) there is a wired option to permanently disable. Another simple jumper install by your rear view mirror wire harness. However, it WILL VOID your warranty, so like me, I'm going to wait till after my warranty expires.
@calthomas992 жыл бұрын
I spent $160 to purchase and install this veru charger. So when I had some issues, I was unwilling to toss it away. I figured out some answers but not all. 1. Take the rubber mat out and toss it. It contributes a LOT of the heat problems. 2. Under Power saving. Test different settings to reduce Power used from Battery and/or Chargeing of the battery. I find I don't need the power saving unless I am on a 1+ hour trip then it starts to get a bit too warm (using google maps, Charging, Bluetooth, Plex (music), email, internet) the trick really is to remove the rubber mat. It insulates that slot and with virtually all cases on phones (with no airflow in that slot) they will all (and I mean all) get hot. Nothing to do with the charger, It charges at full power and the phone naturally heats up in that insulated slot. Reduce insulation is the basic fix. It it is used a lot, I would get a small PC fan , and install it to circulate air inside that slot. I just don't worry about it cause I rarely drive over 1 hour with cell phone active.

I've been having the overheating problem on my 24 Legacy Sport since I got it a few weeks ago. I just saw this comment yesterday, took out the mat and turned off fast wireless charging on my Samsung Galaxy 23 Ultra. So far, it seems to have worked, though I haven't gone on a longer drive yet. Thanks for sharing this. I'm still complaining to Subaru though.

My wireless charger is really poor quality in my OBW also. Its barely charges and really only heats up my phone. I wonder if we can just upgrade to a better quality charger pad? I will look into it!
@calthomas992 жыл бұрын
Charger is fine in outback. When the phone overheats it shuts down the charging current to protect the battery. Hence weak charging..... remove the rubber pad and try a small usb fan to blow inside the charge slot and then see how it charges. My Samsung charges faater in my wilderness, then my other wireless chargers. (7 in total)

Now that I have looked at the wiring in the front hatch again, the one you modified to run power, I realized that I can use that wire run designed for the Feel Free motor option. It appears the wire is 10 or 8 gauge which should be fine for my smallish 30lb trolling motor. Now it’s about trying to find a smaller battery. Any opinions anyone?
@paulleadingham4 жыл бұрын
Good videos of your power set up and how you have rigged a few things. I'm in the process of outfitting my new dorado with a trolling motor in the pedal system hole. YakGadget has a transom mount system that I have purchased. Ordered Watersnake Tracer 30lb. I believe everything will easily go in and out. Fingers crossed. I like the Dorado a lot but not having access to the inside means I am going to have to run power within the working area of the Dorado. Using 10Ga wire so using the front wiring is probably out because that appears to be less than 10Ga??? Wondering if you have come across anyone that has fished wiring through the inside of the Dorado. I'm guessing it's closed up the way it is because of the self-draining aspect.
