I've done this years ago with a couple of 2-stroke aero engines of .40-.60 size. I had to radically change the gear ratios to get any top-end speed out of it, and the engines ALWAYS ran hot with them being aero engines with a much smaller heat sink on the head. I had some success with using a tiny P.C. cooling fan blowing over the head, but proper sized 1/8 scale car car engines are always a better choice.

I was just curious why you would want to convert it to a four stroke if they run hotter and have to add a bunch of fans.Do they last longer? Do they have more power?
@GodsCorruptible Жыл бұрын
It was purely a case of could i do the conversion. I had a spare 4t engine along with a spare crankshaft so i could revert back to stock and I like to tinker. It was under powered due to max rpms but a change in spur and clutch gears did improve it. It did get quite hot, even when running with no body shell. It's certainly do able but as you stated, fans needed. Would I run a 4t zfull time in an rc car? Yes and no. A 1/10 touring car with a small os fs would be ok. 1/8 is too heavy i think. There was a 1/10 from factory in the 90's / early 2000's with a smll pullstart 4t engine, I forget the brand. It was around a .25 size.

I use a micro torch to the cooling fans for a few seconds at a time and it loosens up the old castor oil so you can turn engine over. Use synthetic now so I never have that problem.

I have some MDS 61 with rear exhaust. The engine is very powerful ,but the bearings and the carburetor are shit. I replaced the bearings against good quality c3 bearings,and use a Webra Dynamix carburetor. It runs on a Speed plane like hell(over 21000rpm)with reso exhaust and 20percent castor/5percent nitromethan/75percent methanol.After flying i use automatic transmission fluid as after Run oil. So the engine never gummed Up. I make this with all my model engines,which runs with castor Oil, since 40 jears. My abc engines runs only for breaking in with castor oil. After 2 hours i change to full synthetik oil. Blend of castor and synthetik oil is crap. I use Motul Micro 2t oil. Greetings from Germany

This film was obviously attached only at the edges and then shrunk over the surface. Such covering film is easy to remove, no real need to shoot videos about it. The real challenge is removing film that was ironed to the surface over its entirety. That is a completely different story...

Thanks for the video! Was stuck with mine! Some questions...! 1. So do you screw in to the piston pin to pull it out? 2. Did you mark the valves to put them back the same way or does it not matter? 3. How did you clean the engine? Ultrasonic with Degreaser or carb cleaner? Or some recommend the antifreeze hotpot? Thanks!

The crankshaft had to be shortened for the clutch guide nut to snug up to the flywheel.

You would think a frame this size would be more stable. It’s shaking all over the place. Is it hard to tune or something?
@GodsCorruptible5 жыл бұрын
I agree 100% and i expected it to fly much better. It was the first flight running Betaflight 4.02. Stock tune is no good for it. Been doing lots of research about the filtering etc so i can tune it without smoking any motors. I really want to go back to 3.5.x but the gps has some functions i need in 4.0.x so i dont want to revert unless i really have to.
