I worked on these during my Apprenticeship in the 70s, only the ones I worked on were all Diesels. Happy days 😊

Cracking Bedford restoration, you don't see them on Australian roads anymore but there are still a few around used on farms, seen a J2 last week with a grain bin during western NSW harvest.

I was fortunate enough to visit this iconic place ten years ago. Going up to the very top and seeing everything inside was a great experience, especially the mighty Wallace sword, which is in The Hall of Arms on the first floor gallery. Absolutely stunning views of Stirling from the top!

They used a couple of these in the late 1970s early 1980s with a custom cabin on the back as the tourist "bus" to the lighthouse on Farewell Spit, top of the South Island, New Zealand. I went on one trip in which, of course, the Bedford broke down (crack in the pickup tube for the petrol tank)...but the breakdown occurred on the way back to Collingwood. By a fortuitous coincidence the tour driver/guide on the outward journey had asked if anyone on board had knowledge of the Spit...and a reluctant passenger was persuaded to take the microphone and tell us of the years he had been one of the lighthouse keepers at this very lighthouse! It was his first visit back in 25 years..... The leaking fuel pipe was fixed with duct tape and we got back only slightly later than scheduled...but the whole bus and the driver arranged to have a meal together at the local hotel...no one wanted that magical day to end......

The Army should have a workshop for restoring these old vehicles. Good training for new mechanics, fitters, panel beaters etc. A mortal shame to see them rusting away.
