My judging on the 22 skaters in the Free Skate: Michelle- 5.8 5.8 (11.6) (7 Triples- Loop, 2x Lutz, Toe Toe Combo, Salchow, Flip) Excellent Free Skate with all 7 Triples including a Triple Triple Combination. This is one of her best performances where every Triple was perfect, every position she held was great and the artistry worked well when blending with the jumps. Her spirals were the highlight for me in the program. Because of her Flutzing (Doing the Lutz on an inside edge), the smaller degree of difficulty the Triple Toe Triple Toe Combo had and 5 other skaters left to skate, my marks for technical are lower to allow room at the time of marking. However, given the performances of the others, she was clearly the winner of the championships. After finishing 3rd in the short, I had her winning the free skate and ultimately winning the gold medal. Vanessa- 5.6 5.7 (5 Triples- (1 Double Footed) 2x Lutz, Flip, Loop, Salchow, Toe) A solid skate for the home country skater with 5 clean triples, Vanessa had some great height on her jumps and some nice spins too. Her back to back spins towards the end of the program was very unique and something you don't often see. In comparison to Michelle Kwan, the landings were a bit of a fight for some of the jumps although clean for the most part. This can also be the same compared with Jennifer Robinson too who had a great free skate too. With her 6th place finish in the short, I had Vanessa in 4th in the long which would move up to 5th overall. Had she placed 2nd or higher, she would have won a medal. Julia S- 4.4 4.2 (2 Clean Triples- (1 Hand Down) 2x Lutz, (Double Footed) Loop, Toe) Very disappointing skate for her. She had some nice height on the Triple Flip but just could land it accordingly. She had some lovely positions in many of her spins especially in her combination spin which were very reminiscent of Nathalie Kreig. Potentially, it may have been the experience factor that could have played with her mentally that may have affected her when she was skating. The falls and double footed landings on so many jumps cause for artistic mark to go super down even though the performance itself was very well planned and matched to the theme of the music. Julia was 13th in the short program but had her in 21st in the long program. Overall, she drops from 13th to 19th place. Maria- 5.4 5.8 (5 Triples- Lutz, Flip, Loop, Toe Half Loop Salchow (Salchow Double Footed), Toe) Maria's progression over the years is something to be appreciated. Not only the maturity she possesses on the ice but also her determination. Many of the jumps she landed here are some of the best she ever landed at a World Championships, very smooth, clean and she looked very much in control. A shame on the Salchow because the combination would have exceeded Michelle Triple Toe Triple Toe Combo. Maria also is a decent spinner but she lacks sometimes the flexibility to go for harder spinning positions like Michelle or Sarah or Julia which did have an impact on her technical mark. However, the skate she produced here is certainly worthy of at least a top 5 finish given how the rest of the field turned out. I positioned Maria 5th in the free skate but because of the placements of the other skaters, she still wins the bronze medals thanks to her 1st place finish in technical program. Irina 5.7 5.7 (11.4) (6 Triples- 2x Lutz, Salchow, Loop, Flip, Toe) Another amazing free skate in such a competitive final group. One thing I love about Irina is her ability to add Double or Triple Loops at the end of her combinations, it's such a rare thing for skaters to do so back then. The height of her Triples especially the Lutz and Flip was extraordinary where she beat many of skaters in the competition as well as her speed and positions in her spins. Her omitting the Triple Triple Combinations of the Salchow & Loop and Lutz & Loop may have been the catalyst why she never won the gold medal from this competition and from my own judging. Artistically, she cannot beat Michelle or Maria if everyone skates clean but technically she can. Had she landed that Triple Triple Combination, it's likely her technical marks would have been at 5.9 or 6.0. Irina was 2nd in the short program but 3rd in the long but wins the silver medal thanks to her placements. Sarah- 5.7 5.5 (4 Clean Triples- Salchow Loop Combo (Salchow Under Rotated & Loop Step Out), Toe Loop Combo (Loop Step Out), Lutz, Flip, Toe) Her attempts at the two Triple Triple Combinations were gutsy to increase her technical merit but in some way it cost her a medal for me, affecting her artistic impression specifically. She also under rotated one of her Triples as well as changing edge on the Triple Lutz. Her step outs from the loops in her Triple Triple Combinations were minor reductions and had she skated clean, would have been potentially in the 5.8-5.9 range. But as always some great spins to accommodate the wonderful presentation she has on the ice. Just wasn't her year that year. Sarah's 6th place in the long program improved her 7th place from short program to finish 6th overall.

My judging on the 22 skaters in the Free Skate: Mikkeline- 5.1 5.4 (5 Triples- Loop, 2x Toe, 2x Salchow) Clean Jumps, great presentation in her artistic impression, nice flow, amazing spiral sequence and great speed across the ice. She had a great performance here, very good for her first world championships. I have two small critics- 1. In some spins, she lacks the speed and strength, perhaps because she's young at the time and was maturing into the sport. Had she matched the spins with her power on the jumps, my technical mark would have gone up. 2. Some of jumps looked very small in height in a similar fashion to Olympic/World Champion Tara Lipinski in her prime. The landings for some jumps, although clean, looked slightly awkward. Again potentially to do with her development at the time but nothing problematic. Mikkeline performed brilliantly and I slotted her in 7th in the free skate. Combining her 22nd place in the technical program, she finishes in 10th which is a huge jump in placements. Sabina- 4.6 4.7 (2 Clean Triples- (Double Footed) Lutz, Toe, Salchow) Similar to other skaters on the day, had problems with the most difficult jumps including the flip and loop. Choreography was very good and probably the highlight of the program but the singles she done caused a rift in the mood of the program. Spins were lovely and her posture is nice throughout her general skating, reasons why I raised the technical mark at 4.6. Sabina was 11th in the short but I placed her 15th in the free which is her overall result as well. Viktoria- 5.2 4.8 (10.0) (4 Triples- Lutz, Flip, Salchow, Toe) Amazing height on Lutz and Flip, just looked phenomenal in the air. All 4 Triples were landed nicely alongside some nice spins to match. The fall on her second Lutz and the aftermath from it primarily was the reason I had the performance in the 4s artistically. It seemed like she gave up especially with the difficulties landing the Triple Loop. Although the movements she did throughout the program were very nice, I felt like I was missing something, maybe more drama, more posing, selling the program from emotional standpoint? I positioned Viktoria in 10th in the long program after her 9th place in the short program. However, because of the number totals for skaters ahead of her are so high and those below her are so low, she moves from 9th up to 8th place. Angela 4.1 4.5 (8.6, Wins Bc of AI Tie) (1 Clean Triples- (Hand Down/Double Footed) 2x Lutz, Loop) Another skater who struggled in the long program, it look like she didn't have enough height to complete three rotations or to avoid touch downs. Not only that, she does have a tendency of sometimes Flutzing which could be a fact to why she can't do the Lutz jump correctly or effectively. Her overall spinning ability trumps what she does in her jumping, a great Layback Spin individually but also mixed within a combination spin at the end. With her presentation, it wasn't amazing. It was solid, had some establishments relating to the music but it didn't really have the fire or excitement to be fully invested into the program. But because of the lack of falls in the program, her artistic impression mark increasing hugely under these circumstances. Possibly, had she skated clean here with more Triples, my marks for Angela would have flipped to favour her technicality. For Angela, she was in 4th place from the short but she's positioned into 20th from the long, therefore she drops significantly down to 16th place behind the likes of Diana, Alisa, Silvia and others. Jennifer- 5.7 5.8 (6 Clean Triples- 2x Salchow, 2x Lutz, Flip, (Double Footed) Loop, Toe) Amazing program with multiple valid jumps and great expression. Almost a flawless routine, only technical error was on the Triple Loop. From the spins to her spirals to the footwork to the jumps, this program had it all. This in my books was a medal worthy performance. After this performance, I slotted her in second place from the free skate but because of her 10th place finish in the short program and the placements of the other skaters, she moves up to only 4th. Elena- 4.5 4.8 (9.3, Wins Bc of AI Tie) (3 Triples- Lutz, Toe, Salchow) Elena landed 3 solid Triples here but seems to have a history of not landing so many Triples in the free skate over the years from the 90s. She has nice speed and coverage over the ice but some of the landings of her jumps very awkward and not as secure as other skaters. Although she had some mistakes on the Loop and Flip, her artistry, as mentioned in my analysis of her short program, has improved a lot. There were certain moments in the program especially in the slow section that really boosted her up in presentation. To conclude, I placed Elena 14th in the free skate which means she moves from 12th down to 14th after both skating portions.

My judging on the 22 skaters in the Free Skate: Alisa- 4.7 4.8 (3 Clean Triples- Toe, Loop, Flip, (Hand Down) Salchow) Alisa's overall package in her presentation in between her jumps was decently presented as a foundation. My only critic with her presented is wish I wish she had more attack on her spins and more time holding her spirals to give more impact to the program. She landed a fair amount of difficult jumps in the program but due to her missing some Triples along with her spinning ability, it's hard to put in her in the 5s. 14th in the short program but here in the free skate, I had her 12th, allowing her to move up to 13th place overall. Galina- 4.1 4.4 (1 Clean Triple- (Hand Down) Loop, Flip) This program had a lot of potential to be in the top 10, unfortunately there were too many technical mistakes that made her fall, touch down or doubled/singled. Her carriage on the ice is very good, as mentioned in the short program, her artistry is subtle and quiet. But it's difficult to mark this program higher than in the 4s because of the mistakes she did and only 1 Triple completed. Although she was 15th in short program, I had to place her in last place in 22nd in the free skate which made her finish 22nd overall. Tatiana- 4.6 4.3 (1 Clean Triples- (Double Footed) Flip, Toe, (Double Footed) Salchow) Tatiana had so many problems with her jumps that made her artistic impression fall heavily. Because of the speed she carries on her jumps and spins, her technical mark is higher despite the lack of Triples in the program. Had she had less falls, 2nd mark would have been almost identical to her technical program. However, there were so many programs from other skaters with similar or worser outcomes so she performed better in the free skate. Tatiana placed 16th in the long program, combining her 21st place in the short, she moves up to 18th overall. Diana- 4.8 4.6 (3 Triples- Toe, Lutz, Salchow) A solid free skate landing the hardest Triple in the program. The program is very well choreographed, matching to the theme of the music but there were some moments that disrupted the flow a bit including the Single Flip and fall on the Triple Flip. Spins were very solid and her speed throughout the routine was great. Diana was 8th in the short program but 13th here in the long program. But because of the ordinals of the other skaters, she only dropped down to 9th overall and remains in the top 10. Anna R- 4.3 4.5 (3 Clean Triples- (Hand Down) Lutz, Toe, Flip, Loop) A redemption skate for Anna Rechino. Super happy to see she didn't collapse completely the way she did in the short. She did have some problems on the majority of her jumps in the program which brought down both of her marks. Because of the technical mistakes, I placed her in 17th place in not only the technical program but also in the free skate and finishes 17th in the competition. Yoshie- 5.3 4.9 (5 Clean Triples- Flip, (Hand Down) Lutz, 2x Toe, 2x Salchow) Yoshie had some amazing displays of technical excellence here, completing 5 Triples in total and some strong spins. Her posture and movements in some areas look very heavy in contrast to the music which is very soft and free in expression. Along with the fall on the Triple Loop and a few of the landings of other Triples she did, my marks for artistic went into 4s unfortunately. Yoshie was 5th in the short but I placed her 8th in the long and finish 7th overall.

My judging on the 22 skaters in the Free Skate: Zoya- 5.0 5.0 (5 Clean Triples- 2x Toe, (Double Footed) Lutz, Flip, Salchow, Loop) Solid Skate from Zoya especially as the first one out on the ice. She had some troubles on the harder jumps but executed a lot of jumps well to make her competitive in the rankings. Her technicality was stronger here than her artistry but she did a great job not falling and landed a near perfect program. Because of how early she skated, my marks are quite neutral, nothing too high or low. Also, based on how the rest of the field skated, she definitely deserved the position she got. In the free skate, I had her 9th place. Combined with her 18th place in the short program, she finished in 11th overall for me. Ivana- 4.4 4.4 (2 Clean Triples- 2x Toe, (Double Footed) Salchow, (Double Footed) Loop) Ivana struggled with many of the jumps not named the Triple Toe Loop. As the commentators stated, it seem like she was fighting for the jumps so much that it kinda took away from the performance. Although she had some nice moments with her presentation, the disruptive and awkward landings on many of jumps lower her artistic mark for me. Had she had less mistakes, would have easily been in the high 4s-low 5s. Many of her spins including the camel, death drop and combination spin was slow. It seems like spinning may be her weakness. The best highlight from her performance was her spiral sequence, the extension she had was amazing and how she held the position too. Because of the performances of other skaters, I had in 18th place in the free skate, upgrading her from 20th from the technical program. But because of the ordinals of other skaters, her combined placements would mean she remained in 20th place overall. Anna L- 4.2 4.5 (2 Clean & Legal Triples- (Double Footed/Under Rotated) Loop, (1 Illegal) 2x Toe, Salchow) Artistically better than what she put out technically. Her movements in expression throughout the program were very clear in the character she was portraying and made for an interesting program to watch. Her artistic mark would have been higher had she not had the falls on the Lutz and Flip for me. The lack of difficulty in jumps is why she is in the low 4s but her general skating including her spins were solid. In both the short and long program, I had Anna in 19th place in each section. However, because of how low she is amongst her other competitiors as well as ordinals, she drops from 19th to 21st place. Silvia- 4.6 5.0 (2 Clean Triples- Lutz, (Step Out) Salchow, Toe) Great Opener with a clean Triple Lutz. She had some hesitation in some of her harder jumps to be doubling them but the presentation of the program wasn't disrupted at all with falls. Her spins were very fast and well centered just like how she performed in the short program. Because of how amazing her basics was and her ability to have great positions in her movements, her technical mark is a lot higher than usual for only 2 Triples in this early group. This musicial program was good enough in my book for her to be in 11th place in the free skate. Combining her 16th place in the short, moves up from 16th to 12th overall, behind Zoya.

Both Russian ladies went for slightly unorthodox choices of music for their long programs. It was refreshing to watch in a way. ETA - The ordinals are interesting. Markova only has four ordinals that are 3rd or higher yet she finished ahead of Butyrskaya. My guess is that she, Baiul, and Butyrskaya must have split enough 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place ordinals between them for her to have finished ahead of Maria.

I personally was not on this team's bandwagon even though they did well at these Worlds and even took two first place ordinals. They have tremendous speed and energy though. I wasn't surprised when they dropped down the rankings the next season.

One of my favourite free dances from this couple. Shanti Rushpaul did a great job here with the choreography in spite of the illegal separations and illegal lift at 2:35. Interesting how the judges like it a lot at Europeans but they seemed totally against them here as they nearly placed off the podium at these Worlds. Something definitely was up.

Not as good as their World's performance later that year. Their OD at Worlds was toned down and better resembled an actual rhumba. I actually thought they should have placed fourth here in spite of the excellent skating.

Thanks for the uploads, I did a judging of my own of the 2000 Worlds a while ago so definitely will share some of my takes of 22 skaters I judged: Michelle- 5.6 5.9 (No Deductions) Beautiful program showcasing Michelle's artistry in a different light than normal with the guitar ballad. Spins, Spirals and Footwork performed greatly as well as her Lutz combination and Double Axel. However, the execution of her Triple Flip is most definitely the reason why I didn't placed her as the winner of the short program. For me, there wasn't any major deductions for this performance but it's difficult for me to raise the technical marks any higher than 5.6 for how she landed the jump and her change of edge on the Triple Lutz. Overall, I positioned this performance 3rd behind the two Russians Irina and Maria. Julia S- 5.0 5.6 (0.5 Reduction for doing Double Flip) Amazing Triple Lutz Combination, one of the best of the day, amazing height and flow. Good artistry, no wobbles or anything that made her performance awkward. A real shame she only performed a Double Flip here, had she performed the Triple Flip, she would have easily been in the top 10 for me and quite possibly in the top 5 especially with how she nailed all of her elements in the program especially her combination spin. Because of her Double Flip, I slotted her in 13th place behind the likes of Elena, Sabina and Jennifer but ahead of Alisa, Galina and Silvia. Mikkeline- 3.7 5.2 (0.2 Deduction for Travel on Layback Spin, 0.4 Deduction for Fall on Triple Loop, 0.2 Deduction for Height on Flying Spin, 0.1 Deduction of Lack of Rotations on Flying Spin) Such a character on the ice, amazing stage/ice presence for a 15 year old. Straight line footwork sequence was one of the highlights for me that exhibited the character and personality on the ice. The fall on the Triple Loop as well as technical mishaps on the height and lack of revolutions on the flying spin really hurt her in scores (my first 3s). Because she performed one of the easiest combinations and had so many deductions from other technical elements, I've placed her last of the 22 skaters. She did have a stellar performance in the free that I can't wait to talk about. Irina- 5.7 5.8 (No Deductions) Irina's Lutz combination was a bit leaned over but the jump itself was greater than Michelle's because of the height it had and the right edge for its type of jump. Irina's technical marks are 0.1 higher than Michelle's because of the height of Irina's jumps and her speed and difficulty on her spins, particularly the Triple Flip and her Combination Spin. Besides technically, her presentation is greater than before with a lot more softness in her approach to programs in that year, more attention to detail especially in her arm movements and footwork sequences. Because the technical/required elements are the tiebreaker in the short program, Irina beats Michelle in the tie and I place Irina in 2nd place in the short program. Sarah- 4.9 5.9 (0.3 Deduction for Under Rotation of Triple Lutz Double Toe, 0.3 Deduction for Under Rotation/Cheat of Triple Flip) Beautiful skate artistically and musically. Lots of freedom in expression in between the jumps and very present in her spins and spirals. Has a classic quality to how she expresses herself on the ice. However, the Triple jumps were the thing that let her down in the performance. Sarah's technique on the jumps is very unorthodox with the change of edging as well as the height she has on the jumps. She under rotated before the Triple Lutz & Flip which automatically is a 0.6 deduction (0.3 each depending on judging). That is why I've placed the technical mark for 4.9. However, she delivered the performance with amazing quality along with no disruptions or break in flow which is deserving for a high artistic mark. Because of her underrotating her two Triple Jumps, I positioned her 7th in the short program, behind Angela, Yoshie and Vanessa but ahead of Diana, Viktoria and Jennifer. Maria- 5.7 6.0 (No Deductions) Amazing Short Program. Firstly, great Lutz Combination with a true Outside Edge along with a nice Triple Loop. Although she chose an easier Triple jump, all three jump elements were landed greatly and one of the best of the day. Double Axel was one of her best she ever done, she looked very good and flowed excellently throughout the routine. Her straight line footwork sequence fitted beautifully to the music, ghostly vocals with soft skating. Her spins was nice, wished she had a better position on her Layback Spin. Overall, all of her technical elements were good enough and executed well enough to be tied for highest on the day with Irina & Angela with 5.7 even with a Triple Loop as her solo jump. This performance artistically, most certainly, deserve some 6.0s by the judges. The choreography, the placement of her elements and her softness on her jumps made the program standout from the rest. Maria was the winner for the short program for me. 1. Maria 2. Irina 3. Michelle 4. Angela 5. Yoshie 6. Vanessa 7. Sarah 8. Diana 9. Viktoria 10. Jennifer 11. Sabina 12. Elena 13. Julia 14. Alisa 15. Galina 16. Silvia 17. Anna R 18. Zoya 19. Anna 20. Ivana 21. Tatiana 22. Mikkeline

Thanks for the uploads, I did a judging of my own of the 2000 Worlds a while ago so definitely will share some of my takes of 22 skaters I judged: Elena- 5.1 5.5 (0.2 Deduction for Double Footed Landing on Triple Lutz Combo, 0.2 Reduction for Shaky Double Axel Landing) Her Triple Flip and steps in between before the jump were very good. Her combination spin was also very nice with good speed and different positions. Her artistic impression is much better here than in the early-mid 90s and I love when skaters go for different pieces of music such as her slow rock theme. As well as her deduction for Double Footing the Lutz, I also reduced her technical mark by 0.2 because of her landing position with her Double Axel even though it was clean. I think as important as it is to land a jump, it's also important to land it a solid position. Based on this technical program, I'm placing her in 12th behind the likes of Sabina and Diana Jennifer- 4.9 5.8 (0.2 Deduction for Double Footed Landing & 0.3 Deduction for Under Rotation on Triple Lutz Combo) Her Lutz combination was both under rotated and double footed, resulting in her technical marks in the 4.0s. However, this performance artistically was one of the strongest of the day. Not only does she possess such elegance but also strength and power from her extension, holding positions longer and her spin variations were interesting. This performance was 10th in my book ahead of Sabina primarily because of the artistic mark. Although Sabina had a clean and good skate, her artistry isn't in the same level as Jennifer based on experience. Plus, given how many of the field skated, I don't think Jennifer should be any higher than 10th for fair and unbiased judging. Zoya- 4.4 5.0 (0.4 Deduction for Fall on Triple Flip Combo, 0.2 Deduction for Double Footed Landing on Double Axel, 0.1 Travel on Combo Spin) Zoya's presentation was very nice despite all the technical errors she had in the program. Always smiling, holding positions well such as her spiral sequence. The mistakes on the Triple Flip and Double Axel really damaged her chances. Had she skated completely clean, there would have been a great chance I would have placed her in the top 12. Because of her technical flaws, I slot her in 18th place amongst the 22 skaters I judged. Viktoria- 5.0 5.7 (0.2 Deduction for Turn Out of Combination & 0.3 Deduction for Doubling Triple Lutz on Combination) Viktoria's jumps are huge omg. Such great height and speed, real shame she doubled on her Lutz Jump. Her doing the Triple Flip saved her and kept her in the top 10 for me as well as her presentation. Nothing else I can critic harshly, just a solid program. I placed her in 9th ahead of Jennifer and behind Diana. Tatiana- 4.1 4.9 (0.6 Deductions for Hand Down, Double Footed Landing & for Turn Out of Triple Lutz Combo, 0.4 Deduction for Falling Out of on Triple Flip, 0.4 Deduction for Singling Double Axel) One of my favourite skaters... I really feel for her here with her recovery from her body and the absence of her coach. Too many problems on her jumps that affected her technical and artistic marks. I had her here in 21st because of the jumps she attempted, avoiding last place. Angela- 5.7 5.7 (No Deductions) Great jumps throughout the program as well as some amazing spins including her layback spin The only thing I was be skeptical about was her change in music choice, it just didn't seem to link so much which made me reduce the artistic mark down by 0.1. Besides that, a solid skate with lots of flow and expression and no deductions. I had Angela in 4th place heading into the free skate behind the big names for these world championships.

Thanks for the uploads, I did a judging of my own of the 2000 Worlds a while ago so definitely will share some of my takes of 22 skaters I judged: 1. Galina- 4.9 5.3 (0.4 Deduction on Triple Flip, 0.1 Reduction for Travel on Combo Spin, 0.1 Deduction for Height on Flying Spin): Her combination and Double Axel was great, her flow and edges are really nice. Her artistic impression is very subtle, not powerful, not dramatic but beautiful to look at. The fall on the Triple Flip was a real shame but her recovery was very quick and didn't disrupt her program anymore than she needed to. I did deduct on the combination spin and the flying camel spin as mentioned in the broadcast with either height or travelling being the issue. Without the fall on the Triple Flip, this performance would have likely been in the top 10 for me. However because of it, I placed this in 15th place ahead of Silvia Fontana primarily for the technical mark. 2. Sabina- 5.2 5.4 (0.2 Deduction for Travel on Layback Spin): Every single jump was clean and her footwork was amazing. She had such a softness to her performance but also had such strength to her skating. Her speed on her spins was also very good too. Her carriage on the ice had a ballet dancer sort of quality to it in how she extends her body, her spirals and the flow throughout the program. The only deduction I had was the Layback Spin, there was some travel there could have been better centered. Overall, I had this performance in 11th place ahead of Silvia and Galina but below Diana Poth Anna Lundstrom- 4.0 5.3 (0.2 Deduction for Travel on Combo Spin, 0.2 Deduction for Double Footed Landing on Triple Loop, 0.2 Deduction for Double Footed Landing on Double Axel): Her landings on the Triple Loop & Double Axel were unfortunate, she seemed to have the confidence rotating in the air but insecurity when landing. Her presentation would have been higher had she had more security and flow in her landings for those two jumps. Because of the jumps she chose, her technical mark is very low and the deductions added to that. Her presentation was very solid, nothing amazing but definitely fitting to the music and choreography. I placed her in 19th place ahead of Ivana. Yoshie- 5.6 5.6 (No Deductions): A solid short program with a Triple Flip Combination and a Triple Lutz, she attacked many of her elements well especially in her spins. Her weakness is her presentation, she does have a tendency to focus on the technical aspects more than her artistry but there wasn't anything in the program that needed deductions for it. The only things that could possibly improve was her Layback Spin position and her spiral sequences. A really good skate here, I positioned Yoshie 5th in the short program just behind the big names and ahead of Diana Poth, Sabina and others. Vanessa- 5.4 5.8 (11.2) (0.1 Deduction for Flying Spin Rotation Short): All of her jumps were great, the speed and height in those jumps were fantastic. Her combination spin was amazing with lots of variations in the program. Vanessa's speed over the ice towards the end with her Footwork sequence was very good. The only deduction I gave was for flying camel spin but overall, a really great skate technically and artistically. Had she didn't have error on the flying camel, she would have been in the top 3 for me. I positioned her 6th in the short program behind Yoshie who had a greater required elements mark to win the tie. Anna Rechino- 4.7 5.0 (0.4 Deduction for Fall on Triple Lutz Combo, 0.4 Deduction for Singling Triple Flip): Her jumps let her down unfortunately, it was a really sad to see how she crumbled. Her straight line footwork sequence was one of the best of the women on the day, her spins was very solid and her in between bits with choreography looked very good. This is why I had her in the 5.0s range for artistic impression. Because of all of her mistakes here, I had her in 17th place behind Galina and Silvia but ahead of Anna Lundstrom. I also marked Alisa Drei's performance too. Her marks were 4.8 for technicality and 5.6 for artistic impression with no major errors in her program. I placed her 14th because of her Triple Toe Combination and her Triple Loop as a solo jump

I had some major issues with the results that year. I had A&P in a clear first and IMO L&A should have been lower. I also thought D&V should have been higher (even though going back to the same free dance they did a year earlier did probably smack of desperation). I also had the Bulgarians quite a bit higher as well.

Thanks for the uploads, I did a judging of my own of the 2000 Worlds a while ago so definitely will share some of my takes of 22 skaters I judged: Ivana- 4.4 4.8 (0.2 Reduction for Shaky Landing on Triple Toe, 0.2 Deduction for Double Footed Landing on Triple Loop Combo & 0.2 Deduction for Turn Out of Triple Loop Combo): I really like some of the positions she had in the spiral sequence and her combination spin was her best element of the entire program. Her footwork sequence was nicely fitted to the music but I do feel that the arm movements were in some places over exaggerated and could have been a lot more simplified. This in some essence had an impact on her overall artistry. If she had more simplicity there and less mistakes/more flow in her jumps, her artistic impression would have definitely been in the 5.0s. Based on this performance, I placed this 20th of 22 skaters. Silvia- 4.4 5.4 (0.4 Fall on Triple Lutz Combo, 0.5 Reduction for Doubling Triple Toe): Her Spiral Sequence and all of her Spins were the best elements of the program to accommodate with her great artistic impression she presented. The spins were unique, quick and well centred. This performance had an establishment of character which made the artistic impression shine through despite the technical errors she had. Because she fell on the Triple Lutz and chose an easier solo Triple jump which got doubled, her technical mark went super down. However, she still delivered a great quality performance in her other elements. I would position this performance 16th place ahead of Ivana and others. I also did marked Diana Poth's performance too and felt she had a really solid skate here with a Triple Toe Triple Toe Combo and a Triple Flip. I placed her in 8th placed behind the likes of Maria, Michelle, Vanessa and Irina.

Between these 3 couples, I had the French in a clear first with the Italians in second. L&A's Blues looked very laboured to me. I especially didn't like the noticeable space that they skated with between them. I also thought their right back outside edge during the closed choctaw was the weakest of these three teams.

I am personally puzzled at how Lobacheva & Averbukh placed so high in the compulsories here at SLC. I personally had them much lower in the standings. All I can see when I watch them are their tense handholds and flat edges.

Wow. You’re right. Not much toe point, flat edges and not as fast as others. As a result, it looked labored.

@gk891 11 күн бұрын
@@clay9360 Very laboured indeed. I had A&P in a clear first, either the Italians or the Canadians in second, the Lithuanians or Bulgarians in fourth with L&A way down in the rankings. I remember watching a comparison video of L&A skating this compulsory dance at the 2002 Worlds with some of the teams ranked outside of the top 5 (specifically Navka & Kostomarov, Grushina & Goncharov, and Winkler & Lohse) and L&A were definitely the worst of the bunch.

I always wonder why she tried a triple axel combo in the short program when she could have just done a triple lutz instead and stayed clean. She should have saved her triple axel for the long program when there would be less pressure to skate perfectly.
