I'll never understand certain elements of the punk scene. Here's Jawbreaker releasing one of their best albums ever, and they're practically forced out of punk and emo music?

Saw these guys at the Salem Armory on April 27, 1996. They opened with Ween for the Foo Fighters. I specifically remember Dave Grohl forgetting the lyrics to his own soung and substituting them with screaming. Very cringe but had a good time. Body surfed a bit and tossed into the drink in front of the stage. Oh to be 21 again...

Oh yes, the good old days of the 1990s when indie , punk rock, college rock Pop rock all came together.. was lucky enough to live in a place where we had plenty of local college stations and commercial college stations who put on many summer concert series. Saw this band in Providence Rhode Island in the 90s.

This is truly a great song, but this entire album is great. I know most like 24 Hour better than this one and that's a great record for sure (and yea I do probably rank it just slightly ahead of this one), but I really love this album. Jet Black and Accident Prone are two of my favorite songs on this one. Can't believe these guys didn't make it big, such great music.

Blake was such a good looking guy. It's a shame the director had him behind smoke or out of focus the entire time. Also a shame they tried to lump this in the green day bucket and make the video seem "like it's cool kids! This is one of those cool punk bands too!" They were an 80s and early 90s punk staple but they were also a punk anamoly and it was this other side that made them so loved.

I came here after reading the Jawbreaker chapter about in "Sellout", book by Dan Ozzi. Man, what a sad and depressing story about the pression, the hatred, the "fans" and everything that terminated this wonderful band. I really love the "Dear You" record, they don't deserved AT ALL what happened to them. I'm so sad

I just read a wikipedia article about all the "hype" and angst about the release of this album . . . they needed a better singer and more guitar solos, and shaper video production. .
@Smaldera
@Smaldera 10 ай бұрын
@@englisheducativeProbably, but I believe their 'magic' resided in their unique identity. They emerged from a DIY context and, according to Ozzi, their sin was being outspoken about not being 'sellouts' before they finally signed with a major label. In my humble opinion, they didn't need major labels nor commercial guidelines, which, at the time, were obsessively searching for a new Green Day. That video, for example, doesn't even fit the original style of the song. I don't know, it seems like they were under too much pressure to become something else.
