I am disabled and I don't know how to start my law cases so that I can get compensation for Hellboy and for other movies that Hollywood produced I would really like some compensation so I can buy a house.

Hello, I see this is an older post of your so not sure if you'll get this message but I was looking for answers in concern to what exactly happens when you file a discrimination with the ADA. I was at a restaurant with my service dog and were refused to be seated because I had a dog. The only option if I wanted to eat there was of the restaurant property at a table on the side walk alone and not even on the proper outdoor section. I did call the police and waiting on a police report before I approve ADA. BUT, I'm not looking into getting in a long legal battle with back and forth with the restaurant. Is this something once I file and teh ADA thinks I have a case where they will take over and I wont need to be involved directly? Or once they take the case the restaurant will accuse me of things and I need to constantly defend myself, my service dog and my disability ? I'm not looking into a direct battle legally with the restaurant. If the ADA steps in and fines them i'm okay with that and can prove and show documents to them and then step back and not like to be involved after that.

Once you file a a complaint with the Department of Justice, we have heard that it is timely and the whole process of filing a complaint isn't within our wheelhouse. We are simply an informational guidance center, dealing only with information, referrals, resources and training on the ADA. You would have to reach out to the DOJ directly. There is a statute when it comes to filing a complaint from the date of discrimination event. Hope this helps!

@@rockymountainadacenter4394 I did file and had a police report of the restaurant stating to the police they will not let the service dog in. i filed all that in my complaints to the DOJ and just got a generic email back that at this time my case is not important enough and they have other matters to attend so they wont do anything but I can take them to court myself. Such great help and protectors of the disabled community and discrimination.

BULLSHIT. The very first FACT is that both employer AND employee be honest with each other. ANY disability MUST be revealed and discussed to ensure BOTH parties are fully aware and understand if any changes or considerations need to be implemented. In most cases, a disability can be identified immediately. Physically obvious, blindness, missing limb, hearing, etc. There is no restrictions to discussing how to accommodate various disabilities. A very recent article was published about a candidate that has a "hidden" medical issue that required: "access to an accessible bathroom, permission to carry sharps and an agreement around attending medical appointments." Once the employer was informed and understood there was going to be very significant "considerations" needed, the employer stopped the hiring process. IF the employer was to hire this person, they would have to deal with a person who has "multiple disabilities such as gastroparesis, multiple organ failure, POTS, heart failures and immobility, with the list of what works countable on one hand, ...daily blood infusions, and chronic pain." This should be up to the employer to decide if their operation can work with and provide the necessary support for a person in this condition. It is a very sad condition to be in, but the reality is from a condition called "Loeys-Dietz Syndrome, a genetic condition that weakens the body’s connective tissue that has numerous life-threatening complications." That's "LIFE-THREATENING COMPLICATIONS". It would not only a very huge change within any organization to take on a person in this condition ....but to have realize the person is in a "life-threatening condition" is a massive undertaking and responsibility. COMMON SENSE is needed .....which this video doesn't offer any. .

Sorry, I dont support the ADA non requirement of not providing official identification or requiring vests or official collars. I've worked in enough places and have seen enough bad actors. Not the fault of those who are disabled, but it has put a sour taste in my mouth. The fact that I can take my own dog, walk into a place and claim "ADA" protection, with NO need to at least verify the animal (not claiming you need to spill the beans on all your personal medical stuff, but at least something for the animal) is the most asinine concept I have ever seen enacted from something meant to help disabled individuals. As far as I am concerned, this one aspect of the ADA (this one SINGULAR aspect) hurts it the most, and it's not even a hard ask. It like how you cannot park in a handicap spot without some form of identification on your vehicle, and even then, they are marked in a manner that allows for official verification without the need to pry into the medical lives of people. No perspective or opinion in the last 20 years has been able to sway me on that front, on this one specific part of the ADA.

So what about my ptsd from multiple dog attacks that’s triggers by unleashed dogs? Do I not have a right to comfortably go out in public. I understand that some tasks do require not being leashed, but who gets the preferential treatment in this case? I have no problem with you or your dog, just the no leash part. Especially if you’re just using me as a training tool in a store
@rockymountainadacenter4394

Even if a service dog is off leash, it still must be under control at all times by the handler with disability. If there ever is a dog attach or threatens another person or another service dog, the local authorities can be contacted as with any other dog attacks. While the ADA requires both parties with disabilities to be accommodated, unfortunately this may be difficult to achieve. Your legitimate question is a good one for the enforcing agency to receive - Department of Justice 800.514.0301 or your state's Civil Rights Division office.

Yea, I hate when people ask for certification or something since only the fakes have those and most of the time the fakes get let in more then the real ones. I am a soon to be service dog owner in real life and this fact kinda angers me but I just have to pay less attention to it, if they don’t want my service and they want to break the law that’s on them.

I agree with this though I have a number of places that will offer my girl a cup of tap or ice water for me to put in her bowl. I generally accept this graciously since it’s practically free and is a kind gesture, and always ask for a towel after to clean up any spillage. Gets us brownie points! Would like to note that one of our restaurants we frequent is pet friendly, so this is offered to anything that walks in the doors... including my cat sometimes.

He reminds me to take my medication 3 times a day...He provides pressure relief as well as balance if I lose balance. He picks things up that I drop so I don't fall over getting up too quickly. I am a 100% Service connected DAV. I mostly get questioned at the aquarium and zoo. I don't mind. My service dog is my medical device. He cares for me

Hi, there. Basically, childcare centers has to modify its policies for children with disabilities, just like any places of public accommodations. The only exception would have to be in cases of undue burden, direct threat, etc. Please refer to www.ada.gov/childqanda.htm for further information. Thanks!

It's true that people with disabilities aren't always treated fairly or equally especially when someone is scared or curious about disabilities that they don't fully understand like autism, cerebral palsy, dyslexia, blindness, deafness, diabetes, food allergies, and other medical conditions we can think of. To be honest nobody knows how to interact with people with disabilities due to misinformation about conditions and disabilities that aren't true but plain wrong.

Thank you! I have a service dog and as usual. People see a cute puppy, not me the handler. I politely request that the public speak to me reminding them she’s working and is illegal to distract her. Especially since she can’t speak. That I can speak and I love to talk to people. No one believes she’s a service dog because of the fact everyone thinks that a toy poodle can’t be a service dog because she “can’t guide me.” Also, i look “healthy for a 23 year old person”. Im far from healthy, I have severe anemia, severe acid reflux (aka Gastroesophageal reflux disease or GERD) and I have severe social and emotional anxiety with ADHD, possible Asperger’s syndrome. My dog is what we call a multipurpose service dog. She’s a psychiatric and medical alert and response service dog for my psychiatric and medical disabilities.
