Played this as an audition piece in high school and was placed 1st chair of 30 saxophones. This song will live in my heart forever. Super grateful 🙏

Ken Wood, without a doubt, is among the best euphonium players on the planet. I've been playing euphonium for 55 years, and I couldn't play as well as this gentleman even if I practiced 23 hours per day for all those years. He's phenominal. And his composing skills are just as good. Everything he writes is outstanding. And finally, his skill is matched only by his kind and friendly demeanor. I recently rejoined the Harker Heights Community Band (TX) where I look forward to performing with him and the rest of the group for years to come!

@@halseug This overture isn´t composed for brassorchestra, but full orchestra with string instruments. Look at the score, please!
@youtuuba4 күн бұрын
@@siegfriedweber7956 , have you never heard of "arrangements"? This is clearly not a string orchestra, it is a wind band, and they are playing a wind band arrangement of the piece. Nobody should have to explain this to you.

I played this in an accordion competition in New Zealand in 1962 (and came 3rd of 3!). It's not too difficult except for the bass runs. and has brought back some good memories. It has taken me ages to find a performance of it.

just FYI to all viewers. This also comes in a quartet version (including a contra fourth part) that does not have the orchestra background (although you could probably use the regular orchestral acc.)
I would love to get this arrangement. Is it for sale anywhere?

Excellent performance! RLIB = Richmond Light Infantry Blues. The unit no longer exists, but many of us here in Richmond, Virginia had fathers, grandfathers, or other relatives who served in the unit. I play this march with the Thomas Jefferson High School Alumni Band, which includes some of the same musicians I played with 50 years ago. We didn’t know about this March then, and we’re astounded to find your rendition. Excellent work, thank you!
Reminds me of when my late father, in 1952, decided he wanted to join the Oxford & Bucks military band playing euphonium. He was handed the solo part of, "The Maid of the Mill" (Polka) by Herbert Clarke followed by, "Come back ready to play it with full band in 3 days." He passed his audition (Just, he said) and was able to spend the rest of his military service playing either euphonium or tuba.
