My online league I'm in doesn't have it which took some getting used to but after I got used to it I prefer it. I find the OVR/POT are a bit of a shortcut and we get used to relying on it too much instead of looking at the players ratings/stats and getting a bit less bias opinion. The game is pretty accurate with the position player overalls but the pitcher one's I find are a bit wonky sometimes. Helps me stay optimistic looking at rookie ball teams for throw in's during trades and seeing some qualities on players I like instead of just seeing the 20 overall/potential and assuming they aren't a legit prospect.

When I was going through it I found some cases where a pitcher had three non-zero pitches but OOTP said he had four pitches.

strange! yeah i like to export all the individual pitch types and only count them in my =COUNTIFS formula if they are at least a 25 current and or 40 potentials so sometimes I Get that too.

@@ootpvideos4677 Interestingly, I keep coming up with Vance Honeycutt as the top batter. It's because he's a center fielder with 75 range so maybe the offense/defense weights are out of whack.

@@mattgriffin8383 Yeah that can be the tricky part is getting the weights how u want them. for CF I have it set to 68% offense 30% defense and 2% baserunning and it seems okay. (They only qualify for CF = or CF + in my thing if they have at least 65 OF range)

nice! yeah it's so fun haha. I have been working away on my spreadsheet alot too. Took a lot of editing with the new ootp25 ratings (babip and HR against ratings and such. You got yours on excel or google sheets?

@@ootpvideos4677 It'll be Excel. I work with a lot of data for my job so Excel is the way to go for me. Would be cool to plop it into a SQL database. Raw data and then a whole bunch of lookups and arithmetic. Knowing the arithmetic to do is the hard part of course. Not gonna lie. I kinda wanna see it. :)

I have been using bookmarks for a while now, and it's a pretty cool and clicks-saving feature. I use it differently, though. In my manager office, I set up a bookmark panel, and from there, I can click any screen that I want. Pretty cool series of videos. It's nice to see you posting again.

One thing that should maybe be pointed out, that not even I realized for years, was that you can edit the views for the individual batting and pitching screens. And the even cooler part is, even if you don't look at those screens much, if you do like to look at those screens occasionally while you're playing out a game, when you click on the player to go their screen the view that will be used will be the top view from the individual screens! I think that's fantastic as I'm not a fan of the default views' choices.

Thanks! yeah I probably should of put that in this video but was worried about the length. Same boat, I didn't change those until the past few years and it's probably the views we see most clicking on players all the time!

Good video. I think you overplayed how many OOTP veterans don't use views and filters. You made it sound like only you and a handful of others play with them. I'd be surprised if there's that many who have played the game for say 100+ hours and haven't at least played with views and filters. They're just too easy to tweak to not even try. At some point, however, I think you realize that even views and filters aren't enough and you end up exporting the data and creating your own spreadsheets. I would have also pointed out to those people who haven't tried them yet, "You don't have to be like me and go crazy with them, just go into one view and tweak it a little bit. Then maybe later you'll want to tweak them more.". I'm a fan of them too and I also have different views for different screens, but you showed so many that I think it'd scare some people off.

Thanks dude! Yeah good point, I didn't mean to infer that I guess it came out that way. I think I was pretty shocked how many guys in my online league are long time vets and still used the default views for so much, which made me want to make this video series. You're deff right. I'm sure there's a good portion of players that use them as its pretty easy to change and edit them.

What sort of increase on team performance do you see when you have all of your lineup with like >60 baserunning? I near hear anyone mention baserunning as something to look out for but you'd think if you can integrate it enough then you'd see it lift some offensive metrics for the team as a result

Yeah I think its not nearly as important as the Power/Eye ratings and defensive stuff but It deff can be a good tie breaker when it comes to the draft. I had really good base runners the one year almost all 60-80 rated guys for my starting 9 and I finished the season as a team with +21 base running runs which was first in the league. So it can make a difference for sure. I don't think you need all 80 base runners but I try to avoid the 20 guys. having a 50 base runner at catcher over a 20 rated one is always nice.

Sorry to ask a dumb question but I can't find anything on BBref about it, what's that BatR stat you've got 3rd from the right on your stat row? Would you ever do a video talking about why you like those stats to judge batters? Would be interested if so!

naw no dumb questions when it comes to baseball stats :) . I think its just labeled different in OOTP but its the Batter Runs stat which comes from the average offensive runs produced so if he had 0 it would be league average and -10 would mean he produces 10 less offensive runs than the league average hitter. I think the league average most years is around a 65 or 70 so if they are responsible for 150 runs or so they would be a +75 or so which the league leaders are most years in OOTP. Best comparison would be RBI but instead of just luck being involved with teamates being on base its an overall output tying together alot of things like WAR.
