Wow, I stumbled upon this video and didn't expect to relate as much as I did. Having so many of the same fears it's so helpful to learn how you have worked with your anxiety. All the designs are amazing and it's interesting to see how you incorporated your fears into characters. I wish to be on your level of rendering 3d forms your really good at it :D

Thank you so much! I'm glad to hear you could relate to the video and found it helpful. Anxiety can be a challenging thing, but it's amazing how it can be turned into a powerful tool for both self-expression and healing. As for rendering 3D forms, practice and persistence are key. You'll definitely improve over time. Keep up the great work, and thank you again for your support! :D

I work best in silence as well. I need that laser focus or nothing gets done. You could try flipping the canvas to change the perspective. this is a common practice. It's just not something you want to do too much of for speed paints. It can be disorienting for the viewers.

I've found that breaks really help to get a fresh look at the work. I personally can't talk while I'm working, and I can't listen to speech, but music really works for me.

This was very interesting! Videogames are very much a social experience. Even solo games have robust communities where people can connect and share mutual interests. The issue is when any medium (including but not limited to video games) perpetuates negative stereotypes against a group of people. The media we consume might not make us more violent. However, it does affect the way we see the world. For instance, games that treat people as antagonists based on their skin color or sexual orientation perpetuate the stereotype that gay people are dangerous. An example would be the Fire Emblem series. There are only two dark-skinned characters in the most recent game, Three Houses. One is a man who betrayed his country and became an indentured servant to a blonde-haired blue eyed prince. The other is a grown woman with a child-like personality who can barely speak the language. Both are incredibly brutal fighters whose country was wiped out because they were slaves who rose up against their masters. As such, they are viewed with distrust by the light-skinned people who took them in. Whether or not this was supposed to be a teachable moment no one acknowledges the atrocities performed against this other kingdom. They simply grow to see these two characters as the 'good ones.' These characters who betrayed their people to remain slaves for white people are considered 'exemplary citizens' while the ones they abandoned are called 'savages monsters.' The notion that one must abandon their culture and mimic whiteness is a core tenet of white supremacy. These characters are seen as noble savages and loved by the community. Few people speak out against the message because it's one to which we are meant to ascribe if we want to be accepted by society. It only seems 'natural.' When media challenges those assertions, whiteness fights back. Just look at all of the people complaining about Ariel in the Little Mermaid live action film, and how they review bomb any film that casts a person of color in a role they feel is 'too pure' to not be white. This is a real and present societal issue that's only recently been addressed by popular media. That media can change the way society views people of color and by extension whiteness. However, we still have a long way to go.

Interesting! You raised another issue of video games researched in sociology. I never played any Fire Emblem games, but representation in many forms of media are dicussed quite heatedly these years.

Burn out sucks! I'm glad you're feeling better! AI is great for abstraction and color comps, but it can't do finer details, such as faces. Ask the AI to make a face or a hand and the results are terrifying.

Yeah I tried typing "girl portrait" as the prompt. It could only give a picasso-style distorted version of a face. Phew! Guess we're safe for now!

Splash art is just a large art piece that covers an entire page. It's used in comic books to illustrate important scenes, and was used a lot in classic anime series to transition between commercial breaks.
@inkroverts2 жыл бұрын
ahhh i see! Thanks Chase! I only knew them from video game promotion materials lol
@lacrinova2 жыл бұрын
It came out great ! greyscale method can be difficult to get right ! Oh yeh, I never know what splash means, I think it's just promotional illustration. But most people just see it as the style ! I noticed some of the refs and images you displayed on the screen were from Riot's Legends of Runeterra card art which in my opinion do a better job at story telling. The splash art for the game LoL tends to focus only on 1 character. I hardly see interaction between characters there.
@inkroverts2 жыл бұрын
Thanks Lacrinova! Yea I tend to see it as a style too, because I searched "splash art" and saw this style from different commercial and non-commercial artists. I didn't know Legends of Runeterra is a thing on it own! oops! Just saw Riot art and thought they were the same thing haha
@Chaserbeam12 жыл бұрын
The rule of thirds, where you want the main focal points to be on the intersecting lines at top left or right (usually) because that's how our eyes naturally scan a scene. You've done a great job with the standing character's pose. Their eyes, arms, and foreground knee all motion towards the seated character, drawing the viewer's eyes through the composition in a pleasing way.
