O, one of those things where they chase a little fox with a dozen dogs that tear it apart, so a few folks can have a nice ride. Sad. Too bad y'all have no real predators there that could put up a bit of a fight.

I was astounded by the number of horses in the group. That has got to impact any property they cross over. Way to many to have an enjoyable ride, IMO.

I've watched many, many hours of various Irish hunts with footage recorded by foot followers, and the always entertaining GoPro rider POV‼️ I choose Irish hunts because of the huge deep water filled ditches and the jumping over Irish banks, wide hedges, gates and purpose built fences. The backdrops of churches in ruin, the waterways and how quiet of traffic the lanes are as 50 odd horses and ponies suddenly "pop" out onto tarmac‼️ I'm from Devon England, where its very much uphill and down Dale, the lanes are rat runs with livid drivers if they have to pass 2 horses, never mind 30, 40, 50 and plenty more on Pony Club meets‼️ The fences are just that, barbed wire stock fence, the odd stone wall with huge stones on both sides left where they fell, the copses are full of thicket which can drag the best "seated" rider off after they've had their face whipped by the branches cast off the rider in front, and there's countless gates to open and close, farmers in Devon don't like gates with hinges - no idea why probably to cause havoc to the last one through who has to dismount and lift it, making progress 1 jarring ft at a time! And no they couldn't get back on because their horse barged them into the ground and pissed off across 5 acres to find the rest of the field🤦🏻‍♀️‼️ One thing that I can say for hunt riders in Devon though is how we acknowledge the foot followers with a simple exchange of "morning!" And other appropriate pass the time of day kind of things. The on foot guys love to pipe up with remarks when they laugh along at some rider struggling with a horse that's turned them into a kamikaze pilot‼️ Everyone takes it well, especially well because those comedian's have got mobile public houses in their Defenders and every time there's 20 minutes of standing or rearing around, those guys are there offering plastic cups full of port, or sherry‼️ I don't see that sort of "warmth" amongst the hunts in Ireland, horses trot past those on foot as if both groups are cloaked with invisibility, even the pov footage from 6 or 7 different Irish hunts and all I hear any riders say ìs "let me go first" or occasionally the field master will tell those behind to "keep left" but even his instructions only get passed back to the 5 upfront and within earshot, the rest of the field 60 metres back aren't relayed the instruction?? Its weird to me, it's like the riders are just out for themselves and screw the others, then there's this divide between the foot supporters and those mounted⁉️ The hunts Ireland lack comradeship, unification and joy I suppose? Perhaps I've seen it wrong, but like I said I've viewed countless channels content from all over Southern Ireland and its like the people are the same, but they hunt in various counties⁉️❤😁

That hazard has been greatly curtailed where I live, in southernmost California. (Almost) All outdoor cats in my area have been killed by coyotes in the past decade. So all cats are now indoor pets, and the birds are safe. Sadly, so are the gophers!

Hounds only exist for hunting something. Are they supposed to live as a single, indoors their entire lives? Now *that* is cruel Not sure what's so cruel about riding a horse cross country, either. Guess you want to ban the Olympics too?

@1977kopite it's clear you have never had hounds of any type, scent hounds or sight hounds. If what you said were true, hounds couldn't trail lost people, and there could be no such thing as a drag hunt.Neither of these pursuits have any " bloody" animals involved. Most " fox" hunting today, at least in the US and much of the UK,involves dragging scent, which comes in a bottle. You didn't address my point, which was taking dogs bred for a specific purpose, in this case trailing, and turning them into " fur baby" couch potatoes.

Lots of grey Irish Sport Horses which are a result of a cross between Registered Irish Draft x Irish thoroghbred - great safe and athletic hunters/jumpers. Lots of fairly tired horses at the end of a hunt. For the sake of their horses these riders should do a lot of slow endurance hill hacking to build fitness b4 the season starts, and some cavaletti work to build jumping sharpness and agility. I used to ride a horse to hounds that was fit enough to run in the Grand National at Aintree and he would still be very sharp at the end of 3 hours - he didnt have to work as hard as some of these horses have, so he enjoyed the run more than me/ my sore arms.
