Honestly how hard is it to solder in a single wire and crimp a spade connector, lord knows you could even finish it all off with some flex braid & heat srink... which not only looks pro, helps having spagehitti issues around the mixer... did i mention it looks tidy af that way. P.S internal grounding of such a fine peice of equipment is sacrilidge imho.

Hey Thanks for the videos. Good info to take in. Just wondering what would you do for earthing buzz coming through speakers when using my 1200's? Just checked that they are internally grounded (thanks to your other vid) so that's not the problem.. My RCA's are hard wired internally but the other line out end seem to be a bit tight and maybe too short to fit into my controller... What should I check to eliminate buzz and have a strong signal?

This is WRONG. Technics has released a document that states you should never do this. RIAA curve is destroyed, adds hum at 70hz, transforms your deck in a giant RF receiver, capacitance and inductance problems.. and so it goes. Dont do this! Most problems about grounding are dirty or bad connections at the headshell or damaged rca/ground cables.

So is that what people mean when you’ll hear of people internally grounding a turntable incorrectly for Serato? Do you have to actually have the ground wire to both left and right grounds so that the program will receive the signal correctly?
@commonbeatmusic1290

We are explaining the method of how it is done since the phrase "internal grounding" is thrown around a lot and some don't have an understanding of how it actually looks. We recommend if internal grounding is done to strap the shortened ground wire across both sides of the RCA audio cables for best results.

Hi. I have a problem with a pitch with my 1210 mk2. In practice the problem is the double zero. With the pitch at zero (and the LED on) it turns perfectly, when i accelerate with the pitch in the Moment that the led turns off instead of going faster, the turntable slows down to return to a new zero on a value of about +2.5. It holds the +6 and +3.3 very well, a little less the -3.3 but it is at acceptable levels. Searching on the web I found various tutorials to solve my problem, the point is that when I connect the multimeter to the pitch (obviously disconnected from the turntable) I have an X value, and going to modify the VR302 trimmer that value should modify right? To me it remains fixed and constant. The tests I have carried out are the following: I have completely replaced the pitch, putting the One of my other turntable, and it works perfectly, so I rule out problems with the motherboard or others stuffs of the turntable. With the Multimeter attached to the Brown and Red of the pitch (disconnected from the turntable) I tried to move the pitch fader and the value changes (so apparently the fader is good) but with the same configuration by acting on the vr302 the value remains fixed and constant (so apparently the vr302 doesn't work). At that point I connected the Multimeter to the vr302 and rotating it the value changes, so apparently it is good. I am also going crazy because if there was something to replace I would not know what specifically, and with the times that are running I do not want to spend more than I should. 😬 Sorry if I wrote a lot but I hope I have explained the problem well and what tests I did.

If you are talking about the wires that go to the bulb, they are both black. The easiest way to determine which is positive and negative is to use a multi-meter set for continuity to determine which one is negative and you can put one probe on the pop up light's switch and the other on each wire. Which ever wire shows continuity from the switch will tell you the orientation of how to install the LED.

@@ranbymonkeys2384 The target light circuit is fed with about 20 volts DC so you have to observe polarity if you are changing this bulb to an LED type. The incandescent bulb can be changed without observing the polarity and adding the current limiting resistor like I did in this video.

As an engineer I must say the chassis and audio ground must remain separate until it reaches the device with the RIAA pre-amplifier (mixer or hi-fi pre-amp) Unfortunately quite a few technicians do this modification without understanding the electrical principles behind why the chassis and audio grounds must be kept separate. please see the following documentation which explains in a little more detail: www.technics-service.co.uk/app/download/15133899/Internal+Grounding+Info.pdf

I understand what you are speaking of and I now make this decision based on what my customers are comfortable with because I will often replace the ground wire if they choose to keep it and not internally ground their table. I made the video to explain the process of "internal grounding" to people, not necessarily as a recommendation. I advise my customers to make a decision. Another alternative would be to have the chassis ground go through a grounding AC plug and have the tonearm use internal grounding alone which is something I may pursue in the future.

A lot of people go and swap their RCA cables on these and forget to check the headpins in the tone arm first. The gold plated pins in the headshell receptacle get dirt and oxidation on them and it's good to swab them out with a solvent like isopropyl alcohol or even WD40 on a Q-tip. Often clears up signal and grounding issues and costs nothing to do yourself.

Hi, I followed all the steps until the ohms calibration which gave me 1 or below all the time no matter the position of the fader (i double checked cables, red to brown and black to red), you think it could be the little rotating thing? (VR302 component) or should I replace the hole fader...
@RockNRollHouseFilms
@RockNRollHouseFilms 3 жыл бұрын
You want to put the probes of your meter on the red and brown wires coming off of the fader board and measure it with the fader in the zero position. Then you will adjust the VR302 pot to get 2.7k ohms. If you are finding that you can't set that number it may be an indication that the carbon tracks inside the fader may be worn beyond the point of working properly. Normally if you clean this fader and calibrate is, when you measure on the red and brown wires you should find 2.7k ohms at the zero position then a smooth transistion up to about 18-20k ohms in the upper range and down to like 20 ohms in the lower range.

I've explored the possibility of a ground spike in a 1200 based on some of the comments I've gotten on this video and the likeliness of having serious electronic damage done because of internal grounding are slim to none. Not saying it's not possible. The tonearm ground wire is connected to the plinth as well as the main board inside these tables. If that was a concern to Technics when these were made, I feel they would have gone with a 3 prong power cable which in that case would negate the intent to internally ground. I made this video to explain what it is more than anything else. It's really up to the user to decide what they feel is a method suitable to their application.
