Oh no! I have no experience with that specific issue, but Gemini.google.com and perplexity.ai seem to think that the following may help: Thorough Cleanup: Empty the temporary directory C:\WINDOWS\TEMP completely. Delete any auxiliary files (.aux, .bbl, .blg, etc.) associated with your LaTeX project. Recompile your document from scratch. Check Permissions: Ensure your user account has full read-write permissions in the temporary directory and any project-specific folders. Update Packages: Update your LaTeX distribution and relevant packages to their latest versions. Review Log Files: Carefully examine any log files generated during compilation for further clues about the error's origin. Consult Documentation: Refer to the documentation for your citation package and bibliography style for any known issues or troubleshooting steps. Search Online Resources: Explore online LaTeX communities or forums for discussions related to this specific error message.

@TheExpatProfessor 8 ай бұрын
Thank you for your interest! As with any knowledge, there are several different reasons for acquisition. For general questions regarding tools, techniques, concepts, and definitions, perplexity.ai may offer a much faster response. For example, go to perplexity.ai and type: (use shift+enter for newlines) ---BEGIN--- Can you explain to me for what a student needs something like this? What information do you get that is useful to process? hping3: Simple ping spoof and flood (for educational purposes only) hping3 -1 10.10.10.102 -a 10.10.10.103 hping3 --flood --rand-source -1 10.10.10.102 hping3 --flood --rand-source -p 80 10.10.10.102 hping3 --help ---END--- Response: A student might use tools like hping3 for educational purposes to understand network protocols, security, and testing. By using hping3, students can learn about ping spoofing, flooding, and other network-related activities. The commands provided demonstrate different functionalities like sending spoofed packets, flooding a target with packets, and using random source addresses. This tool helps students grasp concepts related to network security, packet manipulation, and testing network resilience. The "--help" command provides detailed information on how to use hping3 effectively, making it a valuable resource for learning about network tools and techniques.

A follow-up question might be: ---BEGIN--- Why do students need to grasp concepts related to network security, packet manipulation, and network resilience? ---END--- AI RESPONSE: (I would add inspiration and creativity in daily activities to the list provided below) Students need to grasp concepts related to network security, packet manipulation, and network resilience for several important reasons: 1. **Understanding Cybersecurity**: Learning about network security helps students comprehend how to protect systems, data, and networks from cyber threats[1][4]. 2. **Enhancing Resilience**: Knowledge of network resilience enables students to design systems that can withstand and recover from disruptions or attacks[2][3]. 3. **Preparing for Industry Demands**: Proficiency in network security concepts is crucial for meeting the demands of the industry, especially in roles related to cybersecurity and network defense[5]. 4. **Exploring New Technologies**: Students can explore new technologies in next-generation networks, cellular, and wireless communication by understanding network security principles[2]. By acquiring these skills, students are better equipped to contribute to the field of cybersecurity, protect digital assets, and ensure the integrity and availability of networks and systems. Okay, we played around with it today, but we had the problem that we had to ping it through the firewall into the DMZ, because only there are suitable Linux test machines with which we could work safely. Of course it didn't work, but the most interesting aspect of the entire story, which I found a little lacking in your explanation, was the analysis of the firewall log file, which traces such an attack leaves behind. That was more of a side effect because we only had this option. So far, that is the only reason for me to learn such techniques. Of course, the term "IT security" also defeats this argument, but a firewall log file does not appear in your explanation. Nor, incidentally, in any other manual I have looked at on this particular technique. Comprehensive knowledge of the IoC is the master key to more IT security. We want the same thing, so it's all good...@@TheExpatProfessor

That's great. Firewall, router, and other logs are located in IDPS and Forensics courses. It would be great to include every possibility in every video, but alas, it is not possible. Keep up the good work! You can always use skills acquired through other unrelated jobs to assist you in your cybersecurity career, as well. The ability to correlate information, be creative, innovative, and visionary are the most critical traits for Defense/Offense-centric roles.

When I use the elsartice-num style, the references are bounded by small brackets () instead of [ ]. What could be the reason? Can you answer the query, please
@TheExpatProfessor
@TheExpatProfessor 9 ай бұрын
Hello. I'm not qualified as a LaTeX developer or type-setting expert; therefore, this detail may be best answered by a LaTeX AI query. (LaTeX is written with extensible options that often exceed 100 commands with several variations in a single document making unabridged mastery unlikely for anyone - don't be discouraged.) Query: (at perplexity.ai) In LaTeX, when I use the elsartice-num style, the references are bounded by small brackets () instead of [ ]. What could be the reason? Response: (from perplexity.ai) The reason the references are bounded by small brackets () instead of [] when using the `elsarticle-num` style in LaTeX could be due to the specific configuration of the bibliography style. The `elsarticle-num` style is designed to produce numerical citations and typically uses round brackets for the in-text citations and the reference list. If you need square brackets for the references, you may need to consider using a different bibliography style that provides the desired formatting, such as `elsarticle-harv` for Harvard-style citations[1][2]. It's important to note that the choice of bibliography style in LaTeX can significantly impact the formatting of citations and the reference list. Therefore, selecting the appropriate style is essential to ensure that the document adheres to the required guidelines or preferences. If the `elsarticle-num` style does not meet the specific bracketing requirements, it may be necessary to explore alternative styles or customizations to achieve the desired output. I'm sorry about the delay! The best place to start is at your institution's library's publishing site. Look at other published theses or dissertations, and copy the format from there. (The may even have a .tex template available for you) There is no functional change in LaTeX, of which I'm aware; however, this resource link by "calltutors" may be helpful in distinguishing the category/section differences. www.calltutors.com/blog/difference-between-thesis-and-research-paper/ https COLON SLASH SLASH www DOT calltutors DOT com SLASH blog SLASH difference-between-thesis-and-research-paper SLASH If possible, I recommend using a research-oriented style that provides proper numbered headings like: 1, 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 2, 2.1, 2.1.1, 2.1.2, et cetera. This is available in \documentclass{article} or \documentclass{elsarticle} (and many more). I realize that this is not often possible, and you will find yourself needing APA-stylistic options to meet a particular objective.

I'm confused, as the title says "linux desktop", is it a desktop environment? Or an OS?
@TheExpatProfessor
@TheExpatProfessor Жыл бұрын
Well... The OS (Linux) is the OS, unless you consider Linux as only the kernel - This would open a Torvalds, Stallman, Raymond, and others debate. If you are looking at an OS as a Desktop Environment incorporated with a Window Manager, then this is a Chinese OS. If you consider an OS the combination of kernel and associated applications, then this is an OS + Desktop Environment. If you consider the desktop as an integral part of the OS (Windows Vista, etc...), Then, this is beyond an OS. It really depends on your viewpoint, as there is enormous ambiguity and disagreement among many technical individuals.

Thanks for the information, I'm deciding on a newer Mint 20 or 21. For me 17.3 was the peak for Mint, I switched to 18.1 for better, more convinient hardware support, but now is the time to give a chance for newer OS-es such as Mint 20.2 and Windows 10 (1809). There are several things to hate in all OS's, what I hate the most in linux is the dependency system and nobody can change my mind about how bad it is. The fact that I can't run a program on a 5 or 10 year old system what is compiled today its makes me soo angry. My current solution is to keep a million version of different new libraries in my home directory for my now portable apps because they can't use the libraries what my rest of the system does. But life is changing and I accept the fact that I have to too, so I switch to newer OS's and give them a chance.

I have given up on Linux Mint 21. It fails on many levels: Cannot read SD Cards, Cannot consistently connect to Bluetooth headphones (Sony and Microcenter brand), poor volume control (full volume that does not always respond). I used 19.3 without issue. All hardware works in Windows 10, I HATE Windows 10 crashing in browsers and constant bad updates. Running an Acer Aspire laptop. I need a version of Linux that works with ACER Aspire E1-572-6870. Lubuntu (lubuntu-22.04.2-desktop-amd64) no good.

It's good feedback for the mint team. They need to be aware of the problems that they introduced. I'm using 20.x with kernel updates, and it works great. It will only be supported for another two years, but that gives us some time. I'll keep my eyes open for alternative solutions (if FreeBSD would get the browser gpu and other optimizations working, I would certainly consider it.)
