How much faith is woven through it? We are a secular family but this looks like a fun curriculum
@theselittlesprouts10 күн бұрын
@@gemmasummer7337 Most of what I’ve seen of the faith is just at the beginning of a unit which is easily skipable. You may also run into an occasional story problem that may say something about church or something in it. Hope this helps!

So the teachers guide doesn't have a script for the teacher? It looks like all the explanations are in the student book. I'm currently using bju and I hate how much is in the teachers guide.
@theselittlesprouts15 күн бұрын
The teachers guide has some teaching tips in it as well as the activity pages and answers. The actual lesson is in the student book. :)

How did the Abeka Reading work for y’all? I see you’re using something different next year.
@theselittlesproutsАй бұрын
It worked really well for quite awhile. It really helped him break the words up into chunks to read it faster. We did hit a wall in the handbook for reading at one point and couldn’t get past it. We opted to try as different approach and it is working well for us at this point. I think Abeka is a really solid program for sure and recommend it still. Sometimes pivoting is necessary though for kids to help things click better. Hope this helps!

I think The Ordinary Parent’s Guide to Teaching Reading is one of the most underrated phonics/reading curriculums out there. We love it! I love the simplicity and optional activities if needed. We buy a variety of decodable readers for extra practice. We have moved much faster than I expected. My oldest should be finished with it by the end of 1st grade. My 4 year old is on lesson 75. They enjoy it too! And usually ask to do more than one lesson. Though sometimes we split out a lesson over 2-3 days. Depends on what is taught. We like having the separate student book. They like to hold it the whole lesson. We also watch AlphaPhonics to supplement. It helps clarify some of the early blends, digraphs, etc.

I’ve tried a lot of similar reading curriculum. I ended up quitting what you are using now and worked with a reading therapist that guided us to use All About Reading, slightly modified.

I’m a firm believer in meeting a child where they are at regardless of level or label of grade on a curriculum. If the skills match where he is that is what is important

Would this be good in case our child decides to go back to public school? The more Christian based curriculums worry me that they won't have enough for the "public school" standard.

11:08 I do dictionary “copy work”, I’ll select 3 grade-appropriate words for my older kid to put in alphabetical order & then just copy the definitions. My younger kid will pick 1 of those 3 words & do the same. HOWEVER, I love your take on this with an encyclopedia. I see how they’re practicing grammar with this too.

When it comes to the booster cards in tgtb, my son didn't like them either. So, I decided to try an activity along with it. Whenever he would say a page of words or sentence correctly. I'd have fish toys or cars set up, and he'd get to catch a fish or race a car for every page that he completed without fuss. Now, he loves doing the booster cards and asked to do them everyday! A huge win!

@theselittlesprouts2 ай бұрын
The way we have usually done it is split each country into two lessons. We only did this on Fridays so one country lasted 2 weeks for us. We would do the map and flag and maybe three of the videos and one art lesson, sometimes a recipe. Then the next time we would watch a few more videos do the other art lesson and maybe a recipe if we didn’t the week before or if there was more than one we wanted to try. There are booklists too! I feel like you could really expand this if you wanted to. It’s very customizable
