I really enjoyed listening to this episode. As a guy who got into Larry in the early 90s, just when he got into his CD-releasing era, I spent a lot of time trying to get the "rush" I felt from first hearing those very good 70s albums. It's good to hear people exploring his work outside of the context of Larry's own self-mythologizing community. Good stuff.

I keep meaning to thank you guys for having Half-handed Cloud on the show, and to link to the two multi-song performance segments (at 8:03 & 35:33) just in case people want to skip my jibber-jabber. It was a lot of fun, and a huge honor, thanks again.

Way way late to this party ….but as he says:”no one knows the legs as I’d say.. I’d call it …how the how it moves through decades.” I’m here to say it moved me to hear this thing from so long ago, but new to me. It’s an inspiration to songs I’m writing now. “ you never know what the musics gonna do once you’re done with it”. Thank you

Thank you for conducting this interview - smith’s story is captivating, and doesn’t get enough attention. I could listen to 10 hours of Mike being interviewed about Craig’s life and all the anecdotes and bits of information he learned in his investigation.

Maitreya Kali is very interesting and inspirational........... Along with Skip Spence and Roky Erickson he has been the most fascinating of the non mainstream artists that I found through the years 🎶🕊️🌌 And as I am just hearing your new interviews, I found out that he was born on April 20th... Well I was listening to my most recent random SoulFlyin' concert last night on 4/20/2023 at work while sweeping up stardust I heard his song "Jesus Owns" and it was so interesting to me again! I just pick a bunch of CDs without looking at what the names are, then I listen to 2 or 3 sets of 6 CDs on random play... It was near the end of SoulRawkin' and cleaning after a lot of unique synchroncities for 6 hours like usual... Awwe "It is so clear when your karma loses fear" 🎶💫 that was beautiful, I just heard his harmonies floating through as I write this, thank you for this great interview podcast... I thought that his personal vision of Jesus story is very interesting, similar to Gram Parsons "A Song For You... Jesus built a ship that he could sing to, it sails the rivers and it sails the tides..." I was crying when I heard this a week ago, it was so pure with feeling and hope... And like "Jesus Owns" it was a hauntingly unique perspective on why christ was brought into our EartHumanity either as a microcosm or MACROcosm reflection of ourselves. Basically I think that christ is a metaphor in a very long InfinitEternaLight understanding that "The Kingdom of Heaven is within us" 🌌 We are just like the universe, everything is within. We have "christos fluid" flowing up and down our spines and apparently we can find depth of Infinities Possibilities when we understand how to utilize our full being and transcend. I think that people are finding out how this works and we should be able to find our way through the mess of artificial scarcity that is dragging EartHumanity backwards. Music is the deepest thing we have to understand how creation flows through time and space as THE ALL🌌 We are so lucky to have the ability to share so much depth of Times Truths Natural Laws through the internet. How can we keep it free for all to stay connected for truth and Understanding? Courage and Trust in each other to move past petty divisions that are preached by news and media. ✌️🎶🕊️ So I was wondering what he was saying in "Jesus Owns" ... It seems like he was realizing how empty our mainstream religious dogmas have been "It's too quiet!" he says in the strange talking opening of the song, I was thinking that it reflects on how empty our modern societies systems are with shallow narratives, avoiding the truth that we know is behind the bullshit corporate control. Just my perspective. "Jesus Owns" is his most thought provoking song to me, because of how short it is with it's strange beginning and ending... He ends it with something like the InfinitEternal OM....🌌.... reverberating through.... everything....past all of the stories and narratives that we have been fed by the industrial complexes of oppression... Very interesting, and I thank you for this insightful and heartfelt interview 💚🌎🌌🕊️🎶✌️💫

How great. So glad I got see him at least once. It was at the Yttrium festival for Table of the Elements. He performed Happy Days. Sat right in front (Funny memory: there was a restaurant right next to the Empty Bottle, and I saw Grubbs, McEntire, and O'Rourke going into the place. McEntire was joking around, and they seemed to be having a good time. I think there's a photo of them at that place online) . I like how he's opinionated, but it's not overbearing, or pushy, or anything. Really enjoy all of his music, and it's rad to be able to buy the steamroom stuff on bandcamp, supporting him directly. It was interesting to hear about the Joanna Newsom recording from him, which she talked briefly about in her interview with Marc Maron. What was funny was that Maron was like, Jim O'Rourke? Never heard of him. There's a brief biography about him in the Sonic Youth book "Goodbye 20th century". I think, Zorn once said that JOR was one of the most important composers of our time, and this has me holding out for a proper biography about him. I mean, he's really interesting on top of everything else. Nice to hear this.

Having Jim on a guest was something I never thought would happen when I started doing this. He was so nice to talk to, hope he does more things like this. There’s another show he guested on called NOISEXTRA where the conversation was more nuanced about noise music and 80s cassette culture, you should seek that out too. Also the unedited version of this interview is at Patreon.com/lowprofile if you want to hear it!
