i know, imdb considers ben to be a main character. he maybe is later on, but michael and charlie are more of main characters!

I felt that Charlie fell into the circle of main characters that included Jack, Kate, Sawyer, John, Ben, and Hurley. He was Hurley's best friend for goodness sake! What really pissed me off was what happened with Aaron and Claire and how she never knew that Aaron was Charlies spiritual heir. I guess I can't really see what more Dominic wanted out of the role he was playing other than to have more action scenes with Jack, Sawyer and John.

Ugggh, he was my favorite character, I stopped watching Lost around the beginning episodes of season 3 because I found out he dies, :( it was too sad to watch, at least for me. (I didn't watch the show when it was current).

Dominic has a great career. Think about it: He was involved in one of the biggest most successful movies of all time (Lord of the Rings) AND he was involved in one of the biggest most successful TV shows of all time (Lost). Out of Mary or Charlie, I like Charlie WAY better. But still, he should be proud.

Although I agree that killing off Charlie so soon created a good, uncomplicated character arc that a lot of other characters didn't get, this interview kind of sounds like he just got unhappy he wasn't a main character.

Dominic obviously wants to be a lead actor. Action movies are obviously off the list.

I know some people think that Dominic asked for Charlie to be killed off, but he didn't. He was just growing tired of being a background character and felt ready to leave.

wow he is honest, and honestly, his approach seems fairly reasonable, rather leave with a big bang, than float in the show forever, because, how does one always say? you don't realise what you have until it's gone. ;)

It was probably both. He wanted to leave if they couldn't give Charlie a bigger role, and I think out of respect to Dom as an actor and someone who probably didn't bellyache lots about his role, they wrote him a fantastic exit.

Charlie was probably my favorite character on the show- real, and flawed, but still very caring and funny (not to mention brave). I wouldn't have wanted a talented actor like Dominic to be forced off of the show. Hearing that he made the decision himself- and for such an admirable reason- is very relieving.
