Comment by Betty Keller copy/pasted to this revised video from last night's live stream: "I wanted to point out that at 1:04 when I read the question, I didn't pick up that the writer had written the wrong number. The correct number for the Health Care Emergency Guarantee Act is HR 6906. The Senate number is correctly stated, S 3790. This is a great bill to provide emergency relief so people can get the care they need without the risk of going bankrupt from medical bills. If passed and implemented, Medicare would pay the medical bills for anyone who has become unemployed due to the pandemic, or before the pandemic, since obviously jobs are tighter now. In addition, all out-of-pocket (covered) medical expenses would be paid by Medicare, so people wouldn't delay care for fear of the deductible that they couldn't afford to pay. Medicare would pay these bills through the pandemic until an FDA-approved vaccine is widely available. In addition, surprise billing and collection of medical debt are banned; Medicare is allowed to negotiate prices for medicines; and insurance companies are banned from increasing deductibles or co-pays or decreasing coverage throughout the crisis. This is the kind of health care security and financial protection Americans need during this pandemic, and should be passed promptly. Please write letters to the editor, engage elected officials, educate the public and encourage all to advocate for passage of the Health Care Emergency Guarantee Act now."
