Appreciate this video. I worked for about 36 years in the desert and camped in prime rattler country. I never got struck, but came close to stepping over a rattler in a bush one early morning before it woke up and slid away to get out of the heat. My advice for preventing rattler strikes is simple: Watch where you put your hands and feet. Know the times of activity in your area when rattlers will be out looking for prey. Know when they'll be on the move to get out of the heat. You can often find them late evenings or very early mornings on a black top road to stay warm. I moved more than a few to save them from getting ruined over.

One way of exploring different tarp setups is to use a piece of paper and fold it into different shapes that you can easily figure out how many stakes and lines you need for each configuration.

Good info. You covered everything important. I try to remember the Rattlesnake was here B4 lil ole MEeee, that I'm invading it's home, to be respectful & give it a chance to move away from MEeee. If that doesn't happen, I give the Rattlesnake a wide birth as I walk around it. I've lived in Arizona & Nevada for the past 35+ years; I've seen/heard rattlesnakes but never have I caused one to curl into a raised "strike" position.

That’s a great lesson for us all to remember. If we respect nature and the amazing creatures that are all around us, we have a much better chance of staying safe and happy. Thanks for the great reminder!

@helidude3502Ай бұрын
The obvious is always blatantly obvious afterwards 🤦🏻 Nobody is immune to mistakes or bad decisions. If someone experienced can make the mistake, then someone less experienced is also at risk of making the same mistake. Similar products with similar functions being intermixed incorrectly has been a factor in many of man’s disasters great and small. When you survive a mistake, you learn from experience. When you are humble enough to share that experience, then others can learn , and perhaps avoid experiencing their final lesson. Thank you for sharing this. I could have very easily made a similar mistake. After all , these appear to be solid fuel tabs…. Until they aren’t. Great video 👍😎
@northwestwalkingАй бұрын
I’ve always liked the saying ‘common sense is only common if you have it’ In this instance, it was indeed lacking. Hopefully my blunder will be a great learning experience for others and help emphasize the importance of learning how to use your equipment and testing your knowledge before heading out. Thanks for the great feedback and support!

Amazing. RTFI. I applaud your honesty, but little else. Most people would have slunk away in embarrassment, but you embraced your ignorance to make a video. Your strapline is 'Warning New Backpacking Gadget Test Fail' .Nothing wrong with the kit . The kit didn't fail. You failed due to your incompetence, not the gear. Fire Dragon stove and fuel are used widely by the UK services and outdoors people. Don't blame your fail on the gear. Amend your video.

My intention was certainly not to mislead. With the thumbnail and the title both calling out my error and mistake not to mention repeatedly stating that I messed up, I thought it was clear that the error was mine and mine alone. I’ll try to be more consistent with my messaging in future videos. As I learn and develop my channel, I’m finding I do indeed have a lot of room for improvement. Thank you for the feedback it truly is appreciated.
