You would thrive on TikTok and KZbin shorts, I think. It wouldn't even need to be focused on development. As cringe as many of these creators are, they understand the game and are okay with what they're trading for income. A part of me is cool with it, though I can't see myself participating as anything other than a consumer. You, on the other hand, have plenty of experiences and insights that could be sliced up and packaged for TikTok. Something to consider (if you're not already there)!

Nice one, food for thought. The actual content generally is not important (in the big picture). This video or news about this or that, all CONSUMPTION. Ironically, I consume content when I literally consume food - like now. The creating/the experience is where the living is! Creating the article, video, product by the Creator is an energy increasing experience. Playing golf versus watching golf? No contest. The doing is so visceral, the physical, mental, animals, natute etc, senses activated! Travel v watching a video, can't compare. Create more than you consume! For money, a decent path might to do what grows you and or keeps you energized - while getting paid for it.

It's not quite "playing golf" vs. "watching golf." It's "recording yourself while playing golf." It's an augmentation layer-literally more work than you ever had to do before, but it's necessary now because, without it, no one will care.

@@TheRealPearsonifiedYes, recording the "thing" can get notice, engagement and perhaps sales, it is the MEANS and to the END which is money to live (selling a crap or good product, ad sense from eyeballs watching on KZbin etc). For the consumer, that time spent consuming is very low energy living, unlike the focused process the creator experienced making the content. IMHO Life is for creating, solving, teaching, doing, face to face communicating, exercise, sport, building, writing, nature, skill acquisition and mastery.

No matter how you cut it, it's not a tax on WP Engine. It's a tax on all the Wordpress users. If WP Engine has to pay Wordpress' extortion, then they're going to pass that cost on to their customers. And the havoc that this will cause with all other hosting providers and plugin creators will raise everybody's cost for all those products & services. It's extortion to line Mullenweg's pockets.

Narrative building. To be honest - he's (partially) winning. My feel for it is he's got about 60% support. Lot's of outcry, but not what it should be in terms of ratio.

He has a stronger case than most people would like to admit. I think he'll "win" at least 2 trademark claims (Headless WordPress and WooCommerce), and that will be a "good enough" outcome from this episode because it will ensure nice profits over the next 5+ years. If he is also able to get WPEngine to pay a licensing fee, that will be an even bigger win that would make this episode fade away into the ether because Matt will be so powerful without any real competitors. With that said, I do NOT expect Mullenweg to win anything other than the 2 trademarked commerce terms I mentioned above. If this is the way things end up shaking out, then I will consider this public fracas to be a big misstep. Reason why is because it will open up the entire community to new alternatives-even ones put forth by "villains" like Chris Pearson 😈

I was personally affected by this childish and selfish move and I made some comments online. I'm assuming thousands of other end-users of WordPress did the same, which is why Matt restored access. This clearly backfired on him. Not only does it impact the users of WordPress, but it also affects developers of plugins because I have not been able to add new plugins via my dashboard. I always thought of Matt in a favorable light, and I was once at Automattic HQ in SF for one of their parties, but my views on him have totally changed for the worst as a result of his actions. How you play the game is far more important than who wins the game.

Hey Chris, sounds like a pretty cool text editor but what all can I do with it just emails? What about websites and google doc's or even blog posts?
@TheRealPearsonified
@TheRealPearsonified 3 ай бұрын
If you want to add Golden Ratio Typography to a WordPress website, then using the *Focus WordPress Theme* is by far your best option. It's difficult or even impossible to work GRT styles into other Themes, and even in cases where the styles can be added (somewhat) easily, certain items like Bleeds are pretty much guaranteed not to work due to the Theme's HTML structure. If you want to add GRT to a non-WordPress website, then GRT for Websites (the main calculator on the home page) is the way to go. You can switch to Pro Mode, and if you have a GRT Pro subscription, you'll receive a GRT CSS Loadout every time you use the GRT Calculator. Google Docs is a totally different animal. Google maintains total control over the toolbars and buttons, so it's impossible to generate the GRT formatting styles in that environment. Bottom line for Google Docs: It's based on a decades-old word processor paradigm and could _really_ benefit from a 21st century update into the land of GRT. Finally, I also offer GRT for Discourse, which is perfect for adding GRT formatting to Discourse forums.

Hi Chris, this is helpful. Thanks! What's your take on font pairing. Can you use Serif for page titles (say in a blog post) and san-serif font for the page content? Does that go well?
@TheRealPearsonified
@TheRealPearsonified 5 ай бұрын
I think people spend far too much energy worrying about font pairing, but with that said, it's perfectly acceptable to pair a serif headline font with a sans-serif body font. (I do this on DIYthemes.com) Using a serif headline font can make your content seem more authoritative, while using a sans-serif body font can make your content seem more approachable or easier to digest. But the final decision depends on the vibe you want to give off. In my case, I want people to think my advice is authoritative but my products are easy to use. Decide what works for you!
