This interview gave me chills! The idea of using telepathy as a subversive tool is such a fresh concept. Moira Buffini seems to have poured a lot of depth into Songlight, and I can’t wait to see how she explores complex themes like societal control and human connection

The discussion about building a society from scratch sounds fascinating. Buffini’s experience shines through in her approach to world-building.👏

Hi Barry, I noticed you comment and wanted to respond. I haven't had a lot of opportunities to write fight scenes since the stories I've been working on lately don't feature skilled fighters, but things like self-discipline and self-control (or lack thereof) definitely show up in my writing. We have an expression when practicing with live blades, "The edge of the blade is the truth." Generally in class this means that you might think you are practicing correctly, but the blood indicates you are wrong. That adherence to truth and clarity (or their opposites for the villains) also plays a part of my fiction. Thank you so much for the comment.

I'm fascinated by Emiko Soong's character arc-from a lethal assassin to a quiet life in San Francisco, only to be pulled back into action by a shinigami and a family blood debt. This is definitely a book I need to get my hands on!
