One of my favorite Remy Bumppo productions of all time. And a favorite play of mine. Eager to see current production at Court Theatre in Chicago!

I ran across this today when I was looking up what the internet had on this play. It's really odd seeing this as I was in the Broadway version of this in 1979 with Maggie Smith. I played her son, Alistair Carson. This looks so different from the version we did, but of course I only have my memories of it from 43 years ago.

Advice to prospective Chessie owners. Just do as your Chessie tells you & you’ll be fine.

Side note: Don't listen to the morons with armchair advice on dog companionship. Chessies are willful and it would be a crime to totally break them of that aspect. The dog clearly respects you and that's what's important. Great job with that dog and thank you for spreading the love.

I had a Chessie and even though I put it through obedience school it still pretty much did what it wanted. It was accidentally ran over by a full size truck, front and back wheels. It was eating and playing 5 days later. These dogs are tough ass hell needless to say. Once he passed I went with a Boykin spaniel as I had no more energy for another Chesapeake.

Young man - crack down a bit on Red. It’s not cruelty - she will love to know that you are in charge. When you say “sit” once, she must sit. Don’t let her play tug of war with you. “Cute” things like tug of war, her climbing on you, are acts of dominance, or at least that she’s on par with you. Dangerous with any dog. The dog must know that you are Alpha. You both will be happier. Believe it.

Thanks for the video. Not throwing stones but you seem to be trained by the dog. It could be that your being self conscious due to the camera but a CBR requires firm handling all the time. You asked you dog to sit and she knew it and didn’t respond. You also repeated yourself on each command and then rewarded the poor behavior with a treat. CBRs know when they can take advantage of you and will do so. Hand signals work well for training. You won’t repeat the command and dogs read body language better than they listen. I know it’s hard to be tough but it’s much healthier for the dog in the long run.

Dude! Your dog is not trained! While you are talking the dog is demanding attention by pulling on the leash and then chewing on the leash. You do not give any verbal commands such as "Sit" "Down" or even, "Stop". I know you love this love this dog, but your dog is spoiled, spoiled, spoiled. What I mean is the dog is used to getting whatever it wants, when it wants. Get this dog to some training!

'Red sit' - Red doesn't sit. Easy to point the finger, but with Chessies that just won't work. Sit means sit, end of story. Also agreed, she doesn't look like pure Chessie.
