Wonderful ideas and wonderful work. There really was something magical about the films that Donner was responsible for in the series. What could’ve been if the Salkinds remained in support of Donner, and cheap scam artists Cannon never had the opportunity to do Superman 4.

The whole idea of turning back time is iffy to begin with. However considering Donner's vision of Superman is straight out of the Silver age, it's a pretty spot on scenario that would occur in the comics. Originally it was suppossed to be the ending of part two. But they used it in part one because they didn't even know if part 2 would ever come out. They should have just kept the original ending on part 1 ( Lois survives the earthquake). Even though they were going fof the bigger spectacle it would have worked. I feel the problem to begin with was to even make this a two part story o. the first place. In many ways the story feels rushed, and time lines are wonky, continuity is off and motivations are suspect. I mean Superman really decided very quickly to give up his powers without careful thought, and the whole Lois and Clark relationship feels rushed. O thi k this is why Superman 2 suffers a bit. Too much going on. Where the first movie mainly concentrated on Superman. I wouldn't have done the relationship angle until a part 3. Anyway i have no issues with Superman being able to turn back time. But there should be consequences to where this is not always a viable choice. Otherwise it just becomes mcguffin, and Deux ex Machina.

Not bad idea would be taken this different version of the superman movie in this time and with CGI make all those effects and all those ruined places and make all the CGI magic .superman restoring the Washington dc

Selutron is a genius. However I think that the best option is not to modify so much the original idea as it was conceived initially. Most of the people hate the Lester's ending with the amnesic kiss. A hero like Superman should not make love to a girl, leave her pregnant, and finally erase her memory... this behaviour is not from a hero . However, the ending that was introduced in the Donner's version of 2006 is very strange: (1) It is a repetition of the first film (2) We can allow that Superman brokes a important LAW from Jorel in the first movie, becasue he done it for LOVE... but in the second film, there is not a convincing reason for breaking so important LAW (3) With this time travel, none of the things that happen in the movie have happended at all... it is like the movie were a strange forgoten nighmare... the film lose all its sense (4) ... and if nothing has happend, how Lois is pregnant from Superman and has a child with powers in Superman Returns ? (5) Finally, if nothing has really happened... why Superman, at the end, goes to the Fast-food dinner to get revenge on the trucker (I dont like to delete this scene because it is mythical) ... So ... in my opinion, the best end for Superman II is to delete both endings and let that Lois knows that Superman and Clark are the same person... if Clark loves Lois, he must trust on her.. The last appearance of Lois in the film should be when Superman leaves her on the terrace and she says: UP UP and AWAY ... And the the famous scene of the revenge on the trucker (JAJAJAJA).. preceded of this one that was in the deleted scenes: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jF65i56IfK6No9E

Regarding your conclusion: Yes! Absolutly! When I first saw the scene on the terrace I thought: "Wow, this is one of the best superhero movies." and a few seconds later, when Superman started turning back time again: "Oooooh... Spoke too soon :("

I think the Donner cut is perfect as it explains how Kal El gets his powers back and use of Marlon Brando's stock footage is a bonus addition to the film
@NickMichalak4 жыл бұрын
The problem with the time travel ending for Superman II is that it basically means the entire film you just watched NEVER happened, and so, why did anyone bother telling this story to begin with? It's just a really pointless ending. I find the "super kiss" less silly, especially compared to the far sillier elements Lester put into his version, and at least you get that scene at the White House where Superman says, "I'll never let you down again," which shows some consequence and growth for the character.
@ItsTimePictures4 жыл бұрын
We can never ever have a true Donner cut because he didn’t get to finish. His original ending became useless once he focused on Superman I. If he had not been fired Donner would have gone in and with Tom and conceived a new ending. They likely would have shot lots of new footage. We cannot turn back time because only superman can do that.

Sorry, but Joe-El comes off looking like a hypocrite with that sort of pat ghost-in-the-machine resolution. Better to have left “Superman II” with a bittersweet ending where Superman dropped off Lois with mixed feelings at her apartment (with no follow-up she-forgets-everything cop-out scene); Clark bests the diner bully & Superman replaces the White House dome window & reassures the President; and then flies off into the sunrise ‘round the Earth (but without turning back time). Clark/Kal-El/Superman would have then learned an edifying lesson that the best & noblest of intentions sometimes have the direst of unintended consequences. And so, just like everybody else on Earth (including Lois), he’ll just have to learn to live with the notion that actions have consequences & henceforth abide by his father’s warning.

Why not just reverse time and make the whole world forget Superman? Have a more confident Clark Kent show up for his first day of work and keep Superman a complete secret, a man of mystery hiding in the shadows, a rumor. A completely different spin altogether. Because Clark doesn’t act like a bumbling nerd, Lois finds HIM attractive.

Pfft all supes has to do is use his repair vision to fix all the buildings like he did with the Great Wall of China in superman 4. ;) but the best way to save 2 is by changing back the ending in 1 so the time reversal ending is used in 2 as intended.

Appreciate the passion and how thought through it is but for all original director, Richard Lesters failings, his less is more hit the mark pretty well. Sadly this concept ending is just too depressing and has no sense of being uplifting as superman is meant to be.
