I always loved how he, as a successful artist, is able to bridge the gap into the realm of artists who are in much tighter financial situations. I think it's true, that you can find a way to do the same exact thing for little to no cost. This is purely a matter of texture...

It's an honest reflection of being around a lot or rural people when he was in the army. Jews in the military caught a lot of flak from the rural protestants who had been brought up to think basically the jews murdered Jesus. They weren't near as bad off as the black soldiers, but it was common for rural wasps to be open with their bigotry and fuck with jews.
