This was my favorite clock until now. It is very special that it actually features real musical instruments. Unfortunately it is very sad that now nothing is left on the tower, the instruments and even the clock dials have all been removed and only the center core and the frame outside is left

The most amazing about this contraption, is that no one knows anything about it. (No one in the English-speaking world anyway, except for some individuals who came across it, shot some video of it, and made note of its location.) Who built it? Was it built and set up at an exhibition (a world trade fair or exposition in Japan) and moved to Yoyogi Park at a later time? (Probably, because it's obvious the thing was not intended to last; it apparently is a hassle to maintain and is not now working.) What is its name even? The "Shibuya clock" gets a few references on social media. "Yoyogi clock" or "Yoyogi Park clock" also turns up next to nothing. Somebody designed it; somebody manufactured and assembled its components. But, nobody in the English-speaking world knows who.

@@tomakacap8405 That's where I first saw it also. And, I saw that movie when it first ran in arthouse U.S. theaters. The movie was pretty dull; the most memorable thing was that clock. (And it's now gone -- dismantled and everything).
@tomakacap84052 жыл бұрын
@@MrJm323 I can see how someone might think its dull but i think its really sweet and thought provoking. It's a shame about the clock being taken down as its far more special than most western clock towers.

I also just noticed that in this video the dial isnt turning, seems like it was in disrepair for years then as it was taken down 10 years after this video.

In the strictest terms Scandinavia is Denmark, Norway and Sweden. However, due to historical association or the populations descendants, such countries like: Iceland, Faroe Island, Åland Islands and Finland can be seen as a part of the Scandinavian fellowship.

I was there yesterday at noon as I heard it plays at 10.00, 12.00, 15.00 and 18.00. The fountains started doing some kind of programm for 5 min, but the mechanical ring stayed as it was - nothing happened. Seems like it is broken, but you dont find any information about it... What a shame, it would have been so nice to see that "live" :(

Wikipedia states that the term Scandinavia is used as you've said, but can be considered incorrect because the term Nordic countries applies to this broader area :). So basically Scandinavia refers to Sweden, Denmark and Norway, while the term Nordic countries refers to the Scandinavian countries along with Finland, Iceland and the Faroe Islands. The two terms are often confused because of their historical relation to each other.
@TommySasaki11 жыл бұрын
Wikipedia says it is sometimes considered a part of scandinavia and sometimes not.
@euerz11 жыл бұрын
It's not, just take a look in the encyclopedia or at least Wikipedia :).
@euerz11 жыл бұрын
Sorry, that's incorrect ^^;. I'd rather say you should get your facts right before you comment, and especially prior to lashing out at someone for stating facts. Just take a look in the encyclopaedia, it's clearly written that Scandinavia only consists of Norway, Denmark and Sweden. The term "Nordic countries" is used for the broader group of the Scandinavian countries, Finland, Iceland, the Faroe Islands, etc.
@euerz11 жыл бұрын
(...) Occasionally Iceland, the Faroe Islands and Finland are included in the term, on account of their historical association with the Scandinavian countries. Such usage, however, may be considered inaccurate. The term Nordic countries instead refers to this broader group.
@euerz11 жыл бұрын
I am stating facts, or at least of what I've learnt at school. No need to throw a fit x). I see you're Finnish, I'm Norwegian btw :). I had no intentions of insulting anyone, honestly. But since you pointed it out I took the liberty of looking it up on Wikipedia. It's clearly stated that I'm correct in my explanation - Scandinavia does consist of only Denmark, Sweden and Norway, but is sometimes confused with the Scandinavian peninsula. (...)

You're idiot.. FINLAND IS SCANDINAVIAN ! Get your facts right before comment.
