I have been going barefoot on my free time for about a year now and my foot went from completely flat to having a still low arch but an actual arch! It absolutely works! I used to get all these expensive inserts for my shoes and they just hurt really bad. But barefoot for a year and it’s literally fixing me.

I wish someone had shown me this when i was ten years old but that was forty one years before KZbin was launched. I've just tried running with my foot landing under me instead of in front for the first time and i can see its an efficiency game changer. I've been told to relax with good posture. Usain's sholder roll confirms that he is relaxing his sholders while running. Thank you for making such a concise video.

If landing out in front of you increases force production that can lead to injury, how is trying to put force into the ground under you any different?
@skinnystrong
@skinnystrong Ай бұрын
When you land on your heel with your foot in front of your body, you're creating a rigid structure that will transmit shock and will brake your forward progress. When you land with your feet underneath you, you'll notice that at the moment of first impact, your knee is bent. Your ankle flexing more and your knee straightening allow those joints to soften the impact and also allow you to store some of the energy of the impact to be used in your next stride.
@adampyle9814
@adampyle9814 Ай бұрын
@@skinnystrong I completely agree, I guess I am confused because leaning or falling moves you forward but then the suggestion of striking the ground to move you seems to be conflicting.
@skinnystrong
@skinnystrong Ай бұрын
@@adampyle9814 It's not conflicting. Your leg contacts the ground underneath you and then your leg pushes you forward while it's in contact with the ground. The most relaxed running will happen when you imagine a string attached to the crown of your head, like a puppet, pulling you up and letting everything else fall into place.

I’m a horticulturist and on my feet all day walking on concrete and gravel/dirt. I have plantar fasciitis on my right foot and a bunion trying very hard to make an appearance on my left foot. Which Peluvas would suit me best please? I’m a female, size EUR38 in Australia.
@wearpeluva
@wearpeluva Ай бұрын
For your needs, we recommend the Peluva Strand or Peluva Desert Boot. Both styles provide excellent support and comfort for long days on your feet, whether you're on concrete, gravel, or dirt. The wide toe box will help with your bunion, and the minimalist design can assist in managing plantar fasciitis by encouraging natural foot movement and strengthening.

Since you’re a EUR38, you might want to use our size scanner on the website to ensure the perfect fit. Please note that we currently only ship to the USA and Canada. We hope these help make your workdays more comfortable!

How are these different or better than Vibram Five Fingers? PS: I had a pair of Vibrams years ago, I loved the idea, but my 2nd toes are long and did not fit well into those shoes. They seem VERY unforgiving of different toe sizes. If they were more customizable, they’d be amazing. Or if you have toes that fit perfectly into each space.

Born To Run - the book by Christopher McDougall about the Tarahumara Indians is along the lines of these Peluga shoes. Even if you’re a lover of Hokas, which so many are - there’s a science behind barefoot or zero drop running. We aren’t all as fit as Mark and some of us really aren’t going to be switching to barefoot running. But at 62,63, post menopausal I thought I had to quit running because even in my new Brooks Ghosts or Hoka Bondi’s, I was getting back pain, ankle pain and shin splints and my big toe ached. I thought I was going to have to just start walking. Then I on a whim tried a zero drop shoe - Flux - and almost immediately- I’m running 5k’s again with no pain! I’m loving it. So now I’m going to try these Peluga’s. I’ll let you know how I like them. But I already love these running videos!

I don't think they say anywhere in the book that you should just go out the door and do an ultra marathon without preparation. The whole point is that we need to re-learn proper running form.

I liked the video. It's concise 7 clearly explained, but I wonder about dismissing typical running shoe cushioning while predicating from a rubberized track. If you're forced to run on paved surfaces for all your training, I can't believe minimalist shoes are the way to go.

Great comment for sure. We do not recommend endurance running in minimalist shoes, especially on hard surfaces. Since most all runner's feet are poorly adapted. The best strategy is to try and life a barefoot-inspired lifestyle, get your feet strong, and run in your favorite shoes while trying to exhibit good form, particularly the important midfoot landing.

Good comment. We don't recommend people do endurance running in minimalist shoes because its very difficult to adapt. My videos show doing low-impact drills in Peluvas, and I think most runners will benefit from doing lots of walking in barefoot style shoes and running in their choice of shoes, WHILE striving to improve form with that key midfoot landing

What a ridiculous demonstration. Who runs like that it cushioned shoes? Not anyone aware of running technique at least. If these advice where so amazing all elite runners would run barefoot and you no what - none - 0% - are...

The longer you send your arms forward when actually moving forward the longer your feed will be moving forward breaking you and leading to all types of problems. Not a very good recommendation I'm afraid. Also - none - 0% of the elite runners have a 90 degree angle on their arm movements when running so this is way off.
@wearpeluva
@wearpeluva 4 ай бұрын
Good point, I said 'pick an angle' and mention 90 degrees as a simple visual. True many elites exhibit a tighter angle and a varied angle during stride pattern. Im not sure a jogger has direct application to elite runner for arm angle? As a triathlete, I found creating tighter angle caused bicep fatigue since I was running in a fatigued upper body state. Trying to lower arms to around 90 degrees as a thought cue is helpful for many runners who tense in the shoulders too. I dont understand the first part of the comment sorry, but thanks for taking the time to comment.

@wearpeluva 4 ай бұрын
Running with good form is the best way to fix your stride. So if you can only maintain correct angles for a short time, you do that and then walk to recover, then resume. This is a much better workout than shuffling along for miles and miles with poor form!
