This is a great test to show the difference that extra 4K can make as it is the difference between blurry trees on the mountain tops and actual defined trees on the mountain tops. Of course, both cameras blow my RED One MX, Blackmagic Pocket 4K, and Nikon D850 out of the water with the resolution differences, really cool to see and a test I'm surprised more haven't done! These two cameras are also a combo we have been evaluating for our own productions until the URSA Cine line was announced, glad to see they would be quite the upgrade!

what ISO
@pmw350k4 ай бұрын
I used ISO as low as 800, most scenes were 1600-4000, and 1 or two at 25600. I use a bit of NR on most things I shoot with the Z8, as little as possible to avoid softening, but to sometimes include temporal and spatial. I would like to be more precise with the exact details but the Z8 does not save shot metadata.

Did your Z8 exhibit any hot card warnings or shutdowns due to heat?
@pmw350k4 ай бұрын
I have had one hot card warning but not on any of these clips. It was on a brand new Angelbird CFExpress B, after only a few minutes of shooting, just that one time in the beginning, did not shut down and has not happened again. Really not sure why, it was warm outside but I didn't think it was subject to overheat, so a bit surprising but has not happened again after lots of shooting. All the shooting I do and have ever done is 8K/60 NRaw/NLog.

Just to add, most of my shots are 45 seconds or less. If I was doing extended lengths I'd probably use a 4K compressed codec.

Would love to see a screenshot of your NR node for these kind of night shots for the URSA 12K footage. I feel like this had to have taken a lot of heavy lifting from the temporal side of things.

NR is not a flaw, it's a feature whether you accept it as baked in-camera with a mirrorless, or in post with Resolve and BRAW. Here's your screenshot. drive.google.com/file/d/1lr5ymbzXVqwCOZE--cOXgKmC4nUv74tm/view?usp=sharing

Wow, this is actually a really great example of how to handle footage from the URSA 12K in los light conditions. Crush the blacks where there’s not large amounts of information instead of trying to force expose them more than they can or should be. 👌

@pmw350k2 жыл бұрын
Exactly what you said, heat haze, mirage. If affects the distant shots of the snowcapped mountain peaks as well. Lens focal length was 400mm at both points. It affects everything really, just an atmospheric condition caused by temperature differential between ground and air. Less noticeable at shorter focal lengths but still there.

I watched a lot of videos from this camera on KZbin. This is the clearest. But still, this camera is kind of dark. Even a video on a bright day without ND filters is still somehow dim, as if it is always cloudy outside. And if you shoot indoors, then in general. You need some kind of super fast optics for this camera. Even videos on canon r 5 look somehow more cheerful.

KZbin is doing away with VP9 codec for 8K. You can see it in 8K by switching to a browser that supports the AV1 codec; Firefox, Chrome will play 8K. Edge, maybe not.

@tomroper46004 жыл бұрын
It was graded with DaVinci Resolve Studio in HDR10 gamma and Rec.2020 gamut; sourced from S-Log3 XAVC-I codec from Sony PMW-F55 cinema camera. It was uploaded with ST2084 and ST2086 metadata and SDR Lut so it will play on KZbin as intended in HDR or SDR with no user intervention needed. So short answer, some software processing was required but nothing drastic.
@ArctisTheMonk5 жыл бұрын
? BT2020 is SDR not HDR. BT2020 is 4k in rec2020 colorspace. BT2100 is HDR

very nice. what software and luts did you use ?
@pmw350k6 жыл бұрын
Hi, video files were graded in DaVinci Resolve Studio RCM, input transform Rec.2020, ARIB STD-B67 HLG, output transform Rec.2020 ST-2084 1000 nit. A cube lut was included with the KZbin upload for SDR viewing.
@LaLogic24 жыл бұрын
@@pmw350k when you say input and output transform, you mean ACES transform, or color space transform?
@pmw350k4 жыл бұрын
@@LaLogic2 They are the same thing. In this case it was RCM (Resolve Color Managed Space). There is a tab to select it. When I say "transforms," yes I mean RCM input and output transforms but also ACES IDT's and ODT's. (IDT is input device transform, ODT is output device transform.) I've used both, they work the same, do the same, equally well, the RCM flavors are a little more current, get a little more support from BMD. As the tools evolve and become better, I change up the recipe accordingly. Note also, in reply to DevaStation Crew (above), I shot this video in HLG not Vlog-L. HLG captures about a 1/2 stop more DR whereas VLog-L doesn't write above 80 IRE. VLog-L is a bit more foolproof, setting exposure is safer, less chance for over exposing in particular. So VLog-L is easier to use but capturing in HLG retains the full range 0-1023. In RCM, you would choose HLG for the IDT, and ST2084 for the ODT in this case.
@pmw350k4 жыл бұрын
Also I don't remember there being an IDT for HLG, so that's what I mean about RCM being a little more current. Perhaps ACES has an IDT now for HLG, haven't checked in a while.
