I think this is a great move for you as you will have more freedom to post whenevs and less pressure for you to post every single Tuesday if you don't have anything lined up. One of my favourite videos from you was when you did a bunch of impressions - I think the format was prompts on cards and you just improvised on the spot - that was so fun! I know that was a while back lol

Like the new layout Terry, although I will admit I'm gonna miss the Terry On Tuesday brand. I've been meaning to ask you something, is there anything I should be prepared for when publishing my novel via Amazon's KPD? Since it will be self-published I know it won't sell straight away, as I'll need to do a lot of the promotion myself and get friends and family to share it on social media. I don't expect to sell millions like Stephen King, and while it would be nice to make some money out of it. At the end of the day, it's about getting my story out there to the public as best as possible.
@TerryCooperYT5 күн бұрын
Well, I've never published via Amazon, so I can't advise you on what will happen. In fact, if I do decide to try KDP, I'll be asking you for advice! At least you'll get a much bigger slice of the profits, but you will have to do all the promotion yourself. Hope it goes well!

Glad to hear you had a nice time, Terry. I've finished Beyond Darkness, with a total of 91,404 words and twenty chapters. After contemplating for a while, I've decided gonna go with Amazon for publication. Because it's a cheaper option, rather than going through the more difficult and expensive traditional route. I'll get 60% royalties and there's no cost up-front when printing on paperback, it just gives me a reduced royalty. At least I know where I stand with this now. All I have to do next is set up both an Amazon and Kindle Direct Publishing accounts. Then, I can start the process of publishing my debut novel.

It's no secret that 2024 for me personally was a disaster, literally derailing before it even started. All because of catching a flu worser than Covid itself, no thanks to our ex-cleaner. Only to then lose my Mum to it on January 30th, due to her COPD at the age of 54. The last 11 months since haven't been easy for me. The only positive things I can say about last year were the conventions & gigs I went to, going out places with my aunt. And of course, creating my own studio album, Don't Be Cruel. Right now, I just want to get through this good for nothing winter so I can get back in the game ASAP. My main goal of 2025 is writing my debut novel, Beyond Darkness, and get it published somehow. It'll be dedicated to my Mum's memory.

Yes I love the thought of celebrating and highlighting the good days. I need to catch up with my journal, as I usually put the good days in there and fun happenings, but a wee sun is all ye need in your planner. I'm gonna vote for the SW Triptych as a painting shouldn't sit too long unfinished, but the Skeletor Costume is gonna be awesome, so I would prioritise that too, because fun! So, in short, Triptych then Skeletor!

I would say the Blake 7 costume first. Enjoyed seeing the other projects on the go, would happily watch the progress on any and all of these. I too have a million projects needing doing and am as morbid as yourself Tel.. projects I think stave those thoughts off though to some degree. Anyway, look forward to seeing what you pick.
@drmadstudio6441Ай бұрын
My choice would have to be the Zaphod Beeblebrox costume, Terry. Thankfully, I don't have a lot of unfinished projects to worry about. My novel is coming along well at a steady pace. Hopefully, if I get it finished sometime next year. I'll find a publisher, and get it out there to the public. I only wish my mum was still here, she would have been so chuffed to see her own autistic son writing a book. Which is why I'm gonna dedicate the novel to her memory. Even though it's in the genre of cosmic horror, Beyond Darkness is ultimately a love letter to Liverpool. Since the story is primarily set in Merseyside, and it's where my mum was born and bred after all.

I'm a bit conflicted by it all if I'm honest. I don't like the idea of artists being ripped off with no recourse and the inability of the public at large to see why that's a bad thing. I'm not a fan of folk taking themselves seriously as 'ai artists' based on their ability to type prompts out rather than studying or working on learning actual skills.. that said I've enjoyed watching a 1950's interpretation of a Star Wars trailer etc.. I feel bad enjoying such things. In all it's a tool that I've seen used well by people who mix media and use it as a starting board and mixing Photoshop, illustrator etc with it. It's a shiny thing at the moment, I don't think artists will ever be replaced, much in the same way vinyl or cassette hasn't been replaced by digital files, they'll always have their fans and detractors and their benefits and faults.
@TerryCooperYTАй бұрын
@@matthewh5862 we're very much alike in this. We're both traditional artists who like the idea of technological advances. So it's hard to reconcile the two.

Interesting points, Terry. For me, A.I. is a useful tool, a servant, not a master. I use it to organise ideas, create outlines, and as part of cross-referenced research. But the input is always mine. Every new advance is decried by some as the end of the world: calculators, digital watches, home computers, etc. All these things were once new, frightened some and embraced by others before becoming commonplace. I think we'll be fine in the long run.

Confession time, I use ChatGPT. To help write my cosmic horror novel, Beyond Darkness, that I'm currently working on at the moment. I know how you feel, Terry. After what I went through last winter with having flu type A, and losing my mum in the process, I really can't be bothered with the season ever again. Anyway, even though I'm done with conventions for the year now. I do have one more thing to look forward to. And that's seeing my good friend, Ramsey Campbell on November 20th. For the publication of his recent novel, The Incubations. While also celebrating 60 years as an author. I'll admit I did see him a week ago at Waterstones Liverpool. But since I've got nothing else to look forward at this time of year, apart from short cold days and crappy unpredictable weather. I might as well go for it.

Luckily, I've got settings on my laptop that blocks off things that don't appeal to me or just make me feel down. But even then, it's important to take a step back from things every now and again. In other news, I'll be going to my last convention of 2024 this Sunday, Comic Con Liverpool. I know all about Monopoly Events, their over the top prices and the owner's dodgy history. But I wanna go and meet two guests there. First is Steve Whitmire, who took over the role of Kermit the Frog from the Muppets, after Jim Henson's death. Until he was sacked by Disney in 2017. The second is Liverpool legend himself, Ricky Tomlinson from Brookside and The Royle Family. He actually has some history with my family, surprisingly enough. Ricky was friends with my great-uncle, Jimmy Wilde.
