Hi Jake, it’s not quite correct to say that the USA invented democracy. Some of the earliest documented democracies in the ancient world were in Athens, Sparta, and Rome. Even the American Constitution is largely based on the Roman Constitution, particularly during the Roman Republic. People in these societies already had the power to choose their representatives and, in some cases, even the laws.
