@@Sekoumama Oh, I'm not saying it's not art or art house, or that it's even a bad movie. But you gotta admit there's a bit of arrested development going on in what he chooses to portray and how to portray it. Maybe that's the statement he's making, I don't know. But, like wow me without nihilism or shock value, and then I'll be impressed. Still haven't seen that. The Beach Bum perhaps led me down the wrong road because, for me, it was enjoyable as say "Inherent Vice" or something, but not like "concept art" which is perhaps how we should look at most of his films, less for any entertainment value and more as just straight up art. Who can know these subjective things.

@@Sekoumama Yeah, but is it? Is there any chance that it's not commentary and it's just the most shocking thing that he's currently interested in? I mean, Gummo would be amazing if he had gone on to make "Parasite" or "Zone of Interest" or something meaningful--that would actually make me reappraise his films. But when I saw the Beach Bum I realized, he's just doing shit that he likes--and there's no shame in that. But lets stop pretending his films are like something insightful on deeper levels. It's just kind of adolescent entertainment.

In the 13th minute, he is completely on point. There are some people deemed horses, who are capable of greater things and have it in themselves to achieve them. Deeming people horses without freedom beyond that, is a diminishment to art itself. And one thing we know from Napster, all the way to Spotify and beyond, you cannot kill the new ways. You can try, but it ends up being adopted.
