Reminding me of high school religion class. The teacher said “Dogs don’t think” my hand went up. The teachers face looked at me with complete exacerbation. I had a border collie at the time and had points to make. Thinking about this I will stay quiet in today’s Bible study lol.

I do like the Catholic Seasons. Just learned the term ‘Hallowtide Triduum’. The secular world celebrates one creepy night then on to turkey day. We get three days or all November to spend time with or on the people who passed from this existence.

Already looking forward to the next Mass. I hear you say it’s not about what I can get but what I can give, I hope I never bore with telling the Lord how grateful I am to be at Mass. it’s hard not feeling like I’m receiving when I’m thanking.

Fr. Armando gave me a penance of a Holy Hour. At about 10 minutes before the hour was done I apologized to the Lord for being bored. The next day I am standing outside the church. Deanna W. is handing out sheets with prayers on them. I thought it was for the up coming Mass so I took one. One of my friends says 'you are not in a group are you.' Not knowing what she was talking about I said 'I don't think so.' Deanna said 'Would you like to be?" Still thinking it was for the up coming Mass I said "yes." I signed up for a weekly Holy Hour for a year, that day. The Lord is funny and I do not recommend you tell Him you are bored in the adoration chapel. As soon as I found out what I signed up I laughed a little and thought I deserved it.

Hi Fr. John. There are a number of things of which I am afraid, and I feel varying degrees of fear, like on a scale of 1 to 10, depending on what the particular fear is. Who isn’t afraid of something? Even the animals are afraid sometimes! Each time I have read the scripture passage to which you referred, where fear is the first thing listed that keeps us from the kingdom of God, I, too, have thought it rather curious and amazing. In the Bible, God is constantly telling us not to be afraid. Fear is, and always has been, a real big problem for us. Of all the fears in the world with which we grapple, which one(s) would keep us from God, and why? What kind of fear is God talking about, and what is its nature? You mentioned God’s prophet, Jeremiah, whom He sent to the rebellious people with a weighty message. God told him not to fear their faces because He would be with him to deliver him. (I once set some of that passage of scripture to music.) I can’t imagine him feeling no fear while carrying out his mission; at least, he must have had sweaty palms, don’t you think? Jesus sweated blood. Jesus also foretold of hearts failing for fear of what was to come. What does it mean to have a failing heart, and can it keep one from God and His kingdom? I also know that Satan tries to deceive us in many different ways, constantly. Whenever we take the lie as truth and become entrenched in deception, we become fearful of the very truth of God that can save us.

I think the fear that makes us cautious or sweaty before acting is acceptable but fear that paralyses us, when it comes to speaking/living the truth, is what he is talking about here. Yesterday there was a wasp on my computer screen, it terrified me, can’t imagine that was a sin. Jacq if you have any additional thoughts after mass this weekend I would like to hear them.

If anyone knows someone that has left the church try asking them if they believe the Eucharist is the Body of Christ. It may cause some cognitive dissonance that could lead them back.

Wow, Fr. John! While listening to your message, I saw the Ascension of Jesus as a “Sign” that we who believe in Him are reconciled to God our Father. Just as Jesus is received back into heaven and returned to God, His Father, so we are received into heaven and returned to God, our Father. In the garden, He said to Mary, “… I have not yet ascended to my Father and your Father and my God and your God.“ Jesus’ Death on the Cross is a Divine Sign that our sins are forgiven, Jesus’ Resurrection is a Divine Sign that we have eternal life, and Jesus’ Ascension to God His Father is a Divine Sign that we are reconciled to God our Father and “…are seated with Him in Heavenly places, in Christ Jesus”. The Ascension of Jesus is also the precursor (a Divine Sign?) for the imminent sending of the Promise of the Father - the Holy Spirit - to us. And, the gift of the Holy Spirit to all of us is a Divine Sign that Jesus’ prayer to our Father in Heaven, that we all may be one just as they are One, has been and is continually being answered. Jesus’ Ascension into Heaven has become for me an amazing, wonderful sign of things divine. Thanks, Fr. John, for kick-starting this for me. 😇

Due to potentially dangerous interactions with my medications, I can’t drink alcohol with the saints without risking self harm. Sometimes, though, I cave to the temptation when with my Christian friends who are casually having a few. They know I’m not supposed to drink, but out of politeness to me, it is offered regardless. I need to pray for strength to do the right thing during these occasions. I don’t mind social drinking if done in moderation, and I don’t want my friends to feel like they need to abstain on my account. There are many others of us who are in the same predicament. Sorry, I wish it were different, but Drinking with the Saints is not for everyone. Cheers😐

Thank you for your feedback. We do not encourage the use of alcohol if you are not of age or are unable to safely consume it. Many times the glasses on the table are filled with water or soda. Alcohol is not necessary to enjoy the videos. Have a great day.

Thanks, but no thanks. Great subject matter - - but beer? Many of us, self included due to interference with medications, shouldn’t drink alcoholic beverages, even if offered by the saints themselves (which, being saints, they wouldn’t do). We’re too young, too old, on meds, recovering alcoholics, etc.. “Drinking Beer with the Saints”…I get it! A warm, friendly, enticing invitation for us to discover and/or enjoy our sainted heroes! and, I’m not opposed to those of us who can safely do so. For some of us, though, beer is off the table. Does anyone know of short introductory videos that cover the same topic without alcohol being portrayed favorably in the title and graphics?
