Beautiful singing and blending. Interesting emotions expressed, too.

I think so too, on all counts. I had the pleasure of seeing it four times in Australia with these two ladies along with Anthony Warlow, and then at the Broadway opening with the American cast. Personally, I think the Aussie one was far superior and it played around the country for eight months as our audiences absolutely loved it. I was so sad it finished so early on Broadway.

She certainly would. As I always say, ‘Lucy has a voice like melted chocolate, warm, smooth and sweet that flows into every crevasse of your soul.’

this is one of the most beautiful duets I ve ever heard. So moving and poignant, it always reduces me to tears and these ladies' voices blend so beautifully, they make the song even better

I totally agree with your opinion re: ZHIVAGO. I am glad to inform you that the musical will find its way to Germany in 2018 - where exactly, will be kept as secret until spring 2017.

Juergen Hartmann, great news and as a financial supporter, I'm sure to find out soon!

Juergen Hartmann Have u seen the German production in Leipzig yet? U guys are lucky over there.. First “Next to Normal“ and now “Dr Zhiwago“.. none of those will ever make it to England I feel 😟

I wish some daring producers will pick it up for a West End production and stars someone like John Owen Jones in the title role. This show absolutely deserves far more support than it tragically got on Broadway.

It gets here in Germany so much more support and that is so amazing. Yes it's translated and a little bit different arranged. But finally the show gets what it deserves. We all love Dr. Schiwago over here. And I'm so thankfull that the show made the way across the ocean to us.
@estellehobbins19284 жыл бұрын
totally agree. I thought it was a wonderful show and definitely deserves a West End run. If Anthony cant be there I cant think of anyone better than JOJ. I can never decide which one of these two is my favourite singer. I d love to see them in a show together

Hi Jeni, He certainly is enjoying himself. I can't make out what he is putting into the water but it looks like a frisbie. I love the way he jumps on top of it. I have a dog that loves to play fetch by himself, he likes to play with a plastic flower pot. Here is the link if you would like to see him. kzbin.info/www/bejne/Zoqxo2ikgtiaaKM Subscribed and liked. Dee W Hi Dee, I think it was either a frisbee or a scrunched up plastic bottle - we were standing a bit too far away to see it clearly. He kept us entertained for about 20 minutes as he would drop it in and wait til it floated away far enough to jump in again. Such a clever little fella! I had a look at your boy with his garden tub - hilarious!

I had the fortune to be at Opening Night of this musical. Admittedly I was new to the story and had never read the book, so at times I was lost as to what was going on. But the sure thing is that the score swept me away. Such beautiful melodies and orchestrations. Lucy Simon has composed here one of my favorite scores of all time, and that says a lot. I was so sad to hear of the closing. It's a shame that scores such as this are no longer appreciated on Broadway. I'm sure the show can have an amazing life in Vienna, Austria, Germany, Asia, and others where sweeping romantic mega musical melodies are still held in highest of respect. I know the cast album is a done deal, so I'm very excited for that!

I'm really interested in what happened behind the scene too. It is unclear whether the Broadway production made any changes that ticked the critics off. I don't want to pass the judgement that Broadway no longer appreciate mature themed, old schooled musicals any more just yet, but the trend sure is concerning.

I was there for opening night, too, Dave. I had already seen it four times in Australia and then flew over to see it again after receiving two tickets from the producers. The score is definitely my favourite of any I've ever heard - there is so much passion and poignancy in each number and those exquisite lyrics floating on that marvellous score brings the story to life in a stirring way. I thought the opening number was extremely clever with the way it covered the political climate and the two different class systems during that era in Russia's history. Let's hope other productions receive a much longer run - the Aussie one went for nearly seven months and it was a hit in every city.

Jeni Robinson aka Jennifer Larmar - Author If I can rent Tardis from Doctor Who for 24 hours, the first I would do is traveling back in time to see this show. :(
@jsrobinson1328 жыл бұрын
Having seen it here in Australia four times and then flying to NYC for the opening on Broadway, in my personal opinion I feel the changes made for an American audience may have had a major influence. Firstly, the score was changed to accommodate Tam's voice as Lucy Simon originally wrote Yurii's role especially for Anthony Warlow's magnificent range - he was the original Yurii Zhivago onstage for the world's first full production after a smaller version was put on in San Diego many years ago. Secondly, the lyrics were changed in many places and a couple of songs dropped, as well as the inclusion of "Somewhere My Love" from the movie version. I still loved the Broadway version but felt the original Aussie one was far more poignant and subtle in many places. In saying all that, I would see it again in a heartbeat and can only hope it gains worldwide fame and fans. Have a listen to this version by Anthony Warlow and Lucy Maunder from the Aussie version. This is my favourite song of any I've ever heard as the passion and heartbreak is tangible. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iIW8c5V8gqyGa80&NR=1

Jeni Robinson aka Jennifer Larmar - Author Can you elaborate on those changes a little more? It's rare enough to run into someone who even knows this show exists, knowing people like you who saw both productions is a blessing. I ran into Mr. Warlow during his run in Finding Neverland-- I basically went to see that show just for him-- and asked him about the show. He also had no clue why it failed. I'm not even sure he was aware the show was brought to Broadway.

I went to see this show yesterday and I loved it. I was looking forward for it. They did such a good work. Cast, songs, special effects, everything was really well made. Just too sad such an emotional and powerful show could be closed so early. I hope they release a cd with all the tracks.

***** Hi Patrizia. How wonderful that you were able to see it on Broadway! I was very blessed to fly from Australia to be in the audience for Doctor Zhivago on Broadway's Opening Night on the 21st April 2015 and to attend the after-party where I could congratulate those involved from the creative team and some of the cast. I was devastated to hear it was closing early but I'm sure that it will gain a great following as it plays to other audiences around the world. And I have it on good authority that the producers are currently working hard to raise money so a cast album can be made - so fingers crossed and sending up lots of prayers! Thank you for your heartfelt comment and I trust one day you will get another chance to see it so your heart can be touched just as much again. Cheers, Jeni :)

Well said, Jeni! I was a visiting Kiwi fortunate enough to experience the amazing pre-G20 events and I'll never forget those magical evenings watching the city bathed in pale pastel light as dusk arrived then wandering around the light shows, always returning to the Treasury. Now I'm back home in Whanganui and finding it impossible to resist replaying it on KZbin and singing along to the Treasury show, especially when I should be working to meet deadlines! Thanks for posting it, and thanks Brisbane ... I can't think of any city anywhere in the world that I'd rather be.
