It's about time TTC had Artics from New Flyer. I felt like TTC fell behind while other transit systems such as Brampton, Mississauga & YRT already had them for more than 10 years. I Hope TTC gets more of these New Flyer XE60s & assign them at the ssme divisions the Nova LFS Artics are at Arrow Rd, Malvern, McNicoll & Wilson. I'd love to see these on routes such as 7 Bathurst, the future 34 Eglinton, 41 Keele, 53/953 Steeles East, 85/985 Sheppard East & 97 Yonge, even 996 Wilson & 165 Weston Rd North. These buses woukd also be very convenient shuttle buses for subways & streetcars

1:50 this scene reminds me of Westbound trains departing for Waterfront at Burrard station in Vancouver, just disappearing into the curved tunnels. The audible chime before the male speaker announces the next station is based off the Skytrain chimes for “The Next Station Is…” within the 1985-2010 period. Reminds me of how questionable the ICTS Mark 1’s success is.

It's nice, but they should get rid of the platform door chime, which is redundant, or they should make them sound the same.
@Daniel-jv1ku9 ай бұрын
@@unexplainable-complexity You make a good point. Perhaps they could soften the sound? It could still be a beep but would be played right before the train's more melodic chime, and would also use deeper tones that are not irritating but still convey the same message. There are certainly many models of this around the world. When I was in Japan, the platform barriers (not doors, they use glass sliding barriers that are about half the height) complement the sound of the train chime. It's definitely possible and there are many precedents for this.
@Daniel-jv1ku9 ай бұрын
@@unexplainable-complexity You're right. I also thought of the possibility of the PSDs not having any flexibility with the chime. I noticed that this is a pattern around the world with many rapid transit systems that use PSD. When that is the case, my biggest pet peeves are when the PSD chime is louder than the train's chime and when both the PSD and the train use irritating beeps that are misaligned from each other. I gotta say that I am such a nerd when it comes to this stuff. Ever since I was a kid, I tried to come up with the best audio and visual experiences for train systems, from ride smoothness to acceleration, signage systems to chimes & automated audio alerts, the station's architecture to the train's interior design; everything. This extends beyond transportation into just about everything, so that's why I want to become an urban planner. For some reason, it's so satisfying for me to ride the Montreal Metro's Azur trains, with the calming and iconic chime that bounces off the walls of cavernous stations, the refreshingly fast and elegant acceleration/deceleration (the opposite of the Toronto subway in that matter), the very smooth and quiet ride, and the way the doors are lit up with green + red + white with soft transitions in between each colour. There's something about riding 250 km/h across Italy on their extra-quiet high speed trains as you pass spontaneous cliffs embellished with charming villages perched atop them; landscapes that I could compare to the Garden of Eden. There's something about riding the Shinkansen with a healthy dose of forward-drive motion that you can feel in the back of your seat, and hearing a anime/Pokemon-sounding chime uniquely composed for every single station. I just love this kind of stuff and it warms my heart when a perfect projects comes along every once in a while.
