I was watching a behind the scenes of why some cinematographers still use film vs digital, it was mainly because of color separation and how when blue meet orange, you get a green tint whereas digital its none existant, your video proved him right, all these sky shots with the pentax got so much color depth and that green tint seens mostly in the skies, adds another level of separation 😮

I have two Pentax 6X7 MLUs for well over 25 years and the 45, 55 F3.5, 55 F4, 75, 90 105, 135 Macro, 165 and 200 lenses. I prefer the 90 to the 105 for a variety of reason. It is smaller, almost as fast, it focuses more closely and is a sharper lens. The 105 wide open has a signature out of focus back ground when in close focus, but that is not important to me. It is a nice lens that has been hyped up too much hence the silly asking prices for even the poor examples of the lens on the used market. The 105 F2.4 is effectively a 55mm F1.2 lens in 135mm format, but the amount of blur would be different sue to teh difference in the size of the 'circle of confusion ' for the much larger film format. You have done a great job here, but for the comparsion to be 100% valid the film should be darkroom printed. Digitizing the film with a digital camera would still carry the ills of the digital onto the ' scan'. The irony is that even these days one could probably buy a small Pentax 6X7 system just for the price of that F1.2 G lens.

Nice good job here! I do agree that depth of field looks virtually identical however there’s one area that the film wins every time in your comparison - the highlights. In every photo the film handles the brighter areas better and you get what looks like much better dynamic range in my opinion.

I ended up leaving mine off also.. even though CineD showed an improvement with DR ON, I just haven't seen it. They also showed a marginal improvement in the 5.4K over 4K, likely due to higher resolution.. but the 8K showed less DR in their test when compared to 4K + 5.4K with no downsampling.. I'd like to see your thoughts on the other modes, possibly 5.8K & 5.4K Premista vs the GF 16:9. I tend to like the 5.8K and feel the rolling shutter isn't terrible when being mindful. I am hoping they can speed up the readout in any way on the Eterna in the 5.8K & 8K..

What frame rate is this shot in? Not sure if it's the LED lighting + the GFX slower shutter readout but I'm noticing a very subtle stuttering (or maybe ghosting?) effect when you walk into frame. Doesn't look like smooth motion blur. I'm curious if this was shot at 24fps and KZbin's 30fps playback also contributed to what I'm seeing.

Thank you for this comparison. I was curious how 12800 iso would look since on the sony a7siii/fx3/zve1, that's where the ISO cleans up on (built-in-NR or dual base iso, whatever its using). The noise from the gfx100 ii does look somewhat pleasing. Does it look this good in low light scenarios too (as there is a window in this shot with decent natural lighting it seems). Im just curious how well the sony sensor fares with the GFX (if you have any opinions on this). To give more context, I'm currently dual wielding two cameras (one zv-e1 for low light video, and one 40MP+ camera for stills). Was hoping this could replace the two camera setup with one camera, but I was curious how well the low light 4k 60p video fares with the zv-e1.

Hey super well put together video. Great feel for what you do. I hear what you say about vintage lenses and for sure they can look great but I think that their mechanics and operation make them impractical for client work and realistically they are pretty easy to mimic with a few adjustments. I love the mamiya sekor c and probably prefer them to the Leica especially if on a medium format camera. Just with the fds these lenses need to be rehoused properly and that makes them very expensive. With so many good cine lenses at reasonable prices and filters to play with let alone post fx it’s really not worth the incremental shift in interest in the image. Great mechanics and decent throw trump any of those vintage looks imo. Btw I have shot film and there is plenty of detail roughly equivalent to around 8k when done well. Think imax. Thx and good luck with the series.

Interesting video. I would add that the reason why people are loving BMCC6K is partly because of the OLPF, which softens the image and takes off the digital edge. Cameras without OLPF are overly sharp by comparison, so benefit from a softer vintage lens. I think I'm right in saying the FX6 does not have an OLPF.

Can you recommend an EF-adapter with zero play for the Leicas? I tried the Metabones Cine (positive locking) adapter but it still has play with my Leicas - oddly it's rock-steady with my Tokina 28-70mm though.

@@julienajarry I know, I was confused as well. Maybe it's the fault of the Leitax EF-mounts that I have installed on my Leica R lenses... I guess I'll have to try them with another camera that features a locking EF-mount.

I have one question, what if you need to have one or two extra monitors for director and client? Does the small hd output the desqueezed footage? Is there a monitor that does that? Or you have to desqueeze in each monitor?
