Omg! I'm sure I was in this very same holiday. I remember going on the tristar, the Delphi and all the places on the itinerary. It would of been the same year. I'm going to have to look at my photos. The pool looks very familiar.

Amazing, Michelle, thanks for commenting. I have now written up that holiday in ex-cruise-ciating detail (did you see what I did there?) including links to the still photos as well as this cine film. This brought back memories. My first flat was in this block. I was on the 5th. Floor and faced North towards the city. No. 57. Bought it 1976. Wish I had kept it but that's life. I believe another level was added a few years ago with an addition 9 flats. Such an iconic building.

Sorry I thought you were born in Mauritius and I wrote Something in creole. I was just referring to the old outdoors games and how Mauritius used to be in those days. People were really happy those days there and Mauritius was so safe with an unconditional solidarity. Now the country's moral has taken a tragic blow to a level never seen in her history. But the people there still have a big heart. Otherwise I went to Bel Mar and Palmar so many time and also curepipe. Take care and stay blessed.

Since June Palmer was born in 1940, I doubt the sequences featuring her were filmed in the 1950s. Early 1960s is more likely. Google 'tumblr june palmer' to discover why she has an enduring reputation.
@ianharris31429 жыл бұрын
alnot01 Thanks for this comment alnot01. June Palmer arrived at Photo Mart/Strobe Studios "while she was still a teenager" and I suspect that the short film sequence was taken soon after her arrival; probably the spring or summer of 1959.

Dear Ian Harris, Thank you so much for this movie! I was the sailing instructor of Club neptuno in 1976 (by then 19 years old), and I recognise so much in this video, even persons. The waterski instructor was Angel Monzonis from Andorra, and I immediately recognized his vivid behaviour. Also the shots at Cabo de Palo, and at the end of "La Manga". Great! You made my day!
@ianharris31429 жыл бұрын
joopvangent So glad to have made your day, joopvangent. It brings the movie back to life for me to receive feedback from someone like you - even naming some of the characters in the film and telling me a bit more about their characters. Thank you for taking that trouble.
@joopvangent9 жыл бұрын
Ian Harris Thanks for your kind reaction. :-) Yes, I lived with Angel Monzonis, his wife Christina, and two Dutch guys (windsurf instructor and diving instructor) together in an appartment. The owner of Club Neptuno was Arie de Boom, I remember, and one of the "girls" at the reception of Club Neptuno (about 10 years older than me probably) was Marie-Carmen, of whom I still have voice recordings at an old cassette tape. It was Marie-Carmen who tought me Spanish in about one month. I have started my holiday work in 1976 by repairing probably all the sailing boats visible in your movie (at the beach of Mar Menor). The only bits I have from that time are a few photographs, the cassette tape, and memories. 1976 was an important step into the world outside Holland for me, and it feels good to talk to so someone who was there by then! Who are you on this video?

NasRatat NasRatat thanks for your comment, NasRatat. Certainly was 1960. I was born in 1962 and they only made one trip without me after I was born - in 1964, but anyway that was Southern Spain.Morocco. They only made the one trip to Lloret, 1960. Their photographs, stereo images and films are all diligently and consistently labelled. Hope you enjoyed the film anyway.

I cannot imagine why or how your previous comment got deleted, Re. I certainly didn't delete it and have never deleted anyone's comments from my KZbin channel. My earlier reply to your comment has vanished too, which is weird indeed. So I should perhaps say again how pleased I am that this clip of film has brought back memories for you (and has been viewed by so many people now). I'm sure my late father would have been thrilled at the thought that his home movies are up on KZbin now, giving people pleasure so many years later.
@ianharris314210 жыл бұрын
Ah, I've worked it out, Re. Your settings on that original posting have changed so it is held within KZbin as a private message to me rather than a public message. Perhaps happened inadvertently and/or when your computer went berserk. If you go into messages within your KZbin account, you should be able to see it and change its settings to make it public again. I can see it, as you sent it to me, but I don't have permission to make your (now private) message public.

Glad you like the film, serbialand. My father took most of the film, although I might have taken a few scenes. It was Standard 8 Kodachrome cine film, later transferred onto video tape and more recently digitised by me. Filmed in 1973, 1974 and 1975. Enjoy!!

John - thanks for the comment. If you ever popped in to the shop downstairs to buy a lens or a roll of film you would have met my dad! The seaside film merely said "seaside" on the reel. I had guessed Brighton, only because I know that was the more regular venue for dad's family to gather - most of the people are my step-grandfather's family and they might well have favoured Southend. I'll ask some Southend-based kin to have a look at the film next time I see them. Thanks again.

I have recently rescued from my parents' house what little remains of my dad's archive . Dad died in 2007 and my mum went into residential care last year. I very much doubt if there is anything else of interest to you from that period / aspect of my parents' life, but I haven't yet been through it all. (There are some contacts of rejected photos from an Arthur shoot of me age c7 modelling an anorak. Interesting only to me I feel!) If I find anything, I shall notify you here and upload it.

Sure, the camera shop, Photo Mart, was my dad's shop. 43 St John's Hill, London, SW11. Above the shop was a studio, which in those early days my father ran with the assistance of Arthur Howell. My father acted as agent for several models, including June. She was very young when that cine was taken - 19?. June is racing with my mother. Arthur Howell subsequently took over the studio, married Juner and they lived in the flat above the studio. They were both very kind to me when I visited.

I'm really glad you like the slide show. There is also some cine film taken in Sandhurst Court's garden - "Ian As A Baby and Toddler Part One". I had to dig out my birth certificate to find the flat number - 11. We lived there until c1963/64. My step-grandmother, Jenny Marcus, lived in No 21 until the early/mid 1980s - a happy home - some old timers in the block might remember her. You can see the photos in more detail on Flickr - photos/ianlharris/sets/72157632815524669/ - best wishes.

Many thanks for all the kind words. Great attention to detail, there, Dr Driscoll, down to the teacher names, spotting Rohan (who has indeed confessed) and even spotting the use of a digitised gramophone record. Rumours by Fleetwood Mac has vinyl crackles folks - no CD remaster sounds the way i remember it! Indeed, Myles, there was a Photographic Society and some of my better efforts will either be in its archive or lost for ever - Chris Liffin was the main man IIRC.

Thanks for the comment. I suspect that dad was simply experimenting with a sample camera and/or some sample film. It's the only example of him filming the TV in the archive. Mum and dad were regular members of The Players' Theatre and knew Hattie Jacques through that. There are some pictures of her and others of that vintage on the slideshow "New Years Eve 1956/57 at The Players' Theatre", which is also on my channel.

I'm also wondering if the photos at 1.13 and 0.38 are either inside Gracie's house, or the pink apartment? I will double check the archive and let you know! (Just for curiosity, I guess). -The Dame Gracie Fields Appreciation Society.

The very first photo here is actually on Gracie Fields' terrace outside her home. (Above her restaurant/Lido complex). The second photo shows the pool area, as does the photo at 1.36. The whitish/pinkish building on the right was Gracie's 'Pink Apartment', which she used -more or less, as an office and a spare bedroom. (She was in here when she died in 1979). The terrace of there has a lovely mosaic of the signs of the zodiac, which I had the privilege to see last year on a visit.
