Hey there, if you could do it again what would you change in regards to lodging and being close to ski lifts? Trying to plan my honeymoon for this fall December 2024. Thanks!

If I had to guess, I would guess that somebody that can barely play a double G on any mouthpiece said something to the effect that you can only play it because of your mouthpiece. I remember in college, the rest of the marching band trumpet section saying something similar to me. I went down the line and played a double g in thier face using their own mouthpieces. The mouthpiece is not a magic wand!! Allen Vizzutti's philosophy on mouthpieces is to play on the smallest mouthpiece on which you can produce a good sound, becuase 'work smarter, not harder.' Don't worry about the haters, they'll always be out there and they'll always find something to gripe about.

Not a good idea to move the table closer to the tent if you plan on leaving your food supply at the table, since any animals that smell food will follow the aroma. I always attach my food pack to a rope that I throw around a high tree branch and secure the food in mid air.

A lot of people can do the same as you, though not all. But one thing is to make the trumpet scream, another thing is to make music with the high notes. How are you on that front?

I always have protection on me. Rest assured at least 4 different types. A girl can never be certain. Just make sure you are legal where you are. I would never camp alone. It just leaves doors open that can’t be locked. At least he has his vehicle right there. I’d pack my stuff up and get in my truck.

Old school, new school…this is a great show. CLEAN. Wow! They could march. White shoes and dark pants hide nothing. Great horn line for the era. Percussion always Vanguards’ strong suit.
@joemaliga1610 ай бұрын
Great show. You’re right about the audio. Great horn line, though shy on the contras at 6. 10 snares, which is pretty unusual. Must have had some talent in ‘80. And yes, just checked the finals caption awards for 1980, and Bridgemen won high drums. 3rd place finals finish with a score of 90.05. Blue Devils, first, 27th, Second. Spirit, fourth.

Actually presenting the colors was not a tradition at that time. I am not sure when the requirement ended but it was early DCI that ended it. The Bridgemen are doing it because of the music they are playing. Totally appropriate. !980 Bridgeman - a total gas! I love his show and I loved drum corps back then, 70s into the 80s wow!

1980 DCI was in Birmingham, Alabama. Bridgemen won high drums that year, I'm pretty sure. We were on tour with them a bit towards the end of the season. We always tried to catch them--that In The Stone arrangement really hit hard. And yeah, the audio quality of the VHS from broadcast was really poor. It's not a fair representation of what those hornlines sounded like, but sadly it's all we have.

A fight to see who gets the last word in. Ha! Thanks for sharing this. We combined with Crossmen in 1980 somewhere on tour. Float ran a few exercises and our horn lines- Spirit & Crossmen played together also as Jim Ott stood on top of a bus and conducted as I remember it. Fun times. These guy and girls will remember this for the rest of their lives. Such a positive activity in a negative world. Drum on!
