4:31 he was expecting at least a mini eruption of laughter and didn't get ANYTHING. I haven't tried stand up but i can imagine experiencing this feeling and feeling the temptation to let it anesthetize my whole act if I wasn't careful. Louis CK talks about this dynamic at length. He had what he considered a shitty hour of material for 15 years. It got laughs but it made him depressed that he was doing the same shit over and over, getting the same tepid laughter. Then he said "I can't have sex my wife anymore because my daughter is an asshole", and got nothing but uncomfortable groans, and he loved it. It was a new place. He was like oh shit, no more tepid laughter from shitty old jokes with predictable punchlines. He wanted to see if he could get somewhere from THAT place. And he did. Complaining horribly and uncomfortably about his children started him on the road to becoming the undisputed King of Comedy
