Thanks for the memory jog. I used to do this as a solo break in a band about 40 years ago. Not at weddings though.😂

@@bobclaymier9050 My brother does the same thing when him and I play together. I say the same thing to him. We both get a chuckle out of it. Good luck and God bless.

New Sub. here! This is just what I need because I'm an older, newbie to guitar. I really like Fingerpicking. The poor 'Heavy Metal' players missed the enjoyment of this (in my opinion)! Hahaha! 😊👏🏻🥂. So - I'll be practicing this pattern until I get it down, solid.

Nice lesson, but it's better when you start by playing the piece one time completely to show it and so we can understand the lesson better.

Good lesson sir. I'm just beginning to learn how to "Travis" pick although I've been playing for a good many years. It is a challenge but also rewarding in those fleeting moments (so far) when the thumb actually goes on auto-pilot!

Glad to help! Keep picking!

Remind me of a Fleetwood Mac Buckingham guitarist who doesn’t use fingerpicks or nails, but part of his finger. I keep breaking my nails and I’m trying to learn to use the fingerpicks along with the thick. I have the thumb pic pretty much down. It’s trying to Travis pick using Fingerpicks that’s a challenge but so was Travis Pickys

Okay you're right about Ma Belle Carter she did use that type of picking as well as Chet Atkins Merle Travis did not he only used two fingers hence the term Travis picking what you're showing us is not Travis picking not that I'm trying to hate on your video I really enjoyed it
@bobclaymier90502 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching. From everything I’ve seen and read, Merle Travis used two fingers AND his thumb. If you can show me a video of Travis fingerpicking that doesn’t use an alternating thumb I’d love to see it. Thanks!
@wesleystace9962Ай бұрын
@@bobclaymier9050 when I said he uses two fingers I meant is index finger in his thumb
@bobclaymier9050Ай бұрын
@@wesleystace9962I went back and looked at some people’s videos on Merle Travis picking and you’re right, Travis only used his thumb and index finger. Thanks for the clarification!

I love the song alot. It seems important to me that finger picking and arpeggios should be involved in the song.

Yes I agree. I am teaching this song this way to make it easier for my guitar students to play who don’t fingerpick. They asked to learn this song.
