I had a malignant narcissist psychiatric group therapist would groom his patients, enjoy demeaning humiliating and driving them away from friends and family and against each other and used them for money and admiration. Did all the sadistic narcissist stuff to them, constantly played mind games.

If you have been harmed by a therapist or a therapist has acted inappropriately toward you, we encourage you to use the resources in your area such as the registration body for professionals where you’re located. You should be able to find them by searching for “formal therapist complaint process in (location).” We are very sorry that you had this experience

Of course therapists get triggered. We are human. That's one place where supervision comes in.

A licensed family therapist from San Diego on my husband’s tour started slapping my butt without my consent to humiliate me in front of other people. So much so for a nice friendly guy personality!

Privacy is my biggest issue. I am not a therapist, but every time I've been to one, my trust has been betrayed. What is the purpose of therapy if there is not one person who can guarantee that the discussion at hand is confidential?

Confidentiality is so important for trust to be formed. It sounds like you've had a difficult experience with that! We certainly know how tricky it can be to navigate talking about client sessions or topics while also not breaking confidentiality. What some therapists do is talk about themes or do what we call a "composite client story" which is a grouping of similar cases to show a theme. This hides identity while also aiding in the field. In any case, it always has to be done in a very sensitive manner. On Your Therapist is Not Okay, we never share a story where a client could be identified by another person. We do this by using composite cases examples or keeping it vague and without identifying information

That said, are you a different person in your personal life than in your counseling work where you are holding space and focus for or therapeutically relating?
