I had a counselor in Junior High, last name Adams with ancestry back to John and Abigail,. My counselor looked similar to the paintings of John. Years later I had a co-worker who looked familiar as well, she also had ancestry back to them and looked very much like Abigail.

John Adams should certainly have been pleased with the life he'd lead. When I turned 41, I said to myself "At my age John Adams had founded an entire COUNTRY!".

Many correctly point out the historical inaccuracies in this series, but I don't believe any program could have done a better job portraying these amazing people and their times. In that, at least, it is brilliant.

Rejoice evermore.. For in sixty years or so this country will be engulfed in civil war, because some people say they have a god given right to own other people as property.

Each of us has that same ability to stop...and genuinely marvel at the complexity and beauty of the life that surrounds us. And those who are forever curious can easily, and silently, let an hour or two slip by simply pondering the fact that we're here at all. And we're fully aware that we're here....though we can't say exactly where our next thought comes from. It's a sweet old world.

“And why are you anxious about clothing? Observe the lilies of the field, how they grow: they do not toil or spin, but I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory was dressed like one of these. But if God dresses the grass of the field in this way, although it is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not do so much more for you, you of little faith?” Matthew 6:28-30 LEB This show is a masterpiece. I wish we had more.

This series changed my life, not even kidding one shred. I was very nearly the classic nihilist before it, but after it, and specifically the final episode, I began to think like John Adams here. It was a gradual change, but I just care so much more about the mundane, small things than I used to. A tree is a masterpiece and a universe is a boring blank sheet. That universe matters too, but I am small. I cannot see that universe. The grove of trees in my yard, that I can see, I can impact, and turn into a lovely park for my family and dogs. I love the mundane, and if that makes me boring so be it. I am no Darwin, no Cassius, no Voltaire. I COULD if I wanted to be, anyone can be, but I love these small things. I can always work to improve myself, and I do, life is a slow process. But enjoying the mundane in my 20s rather than in my old age like John Adams gives me hope that I'll have the time and the ability to truly make myself and my loved ones happy! Rejoice Forevermore!!!!!!

So you just started to appreciate appreciating the things around you, using you as a the unit of measure, that's not profound... that's just the laziest definition of selfishness. Not everybody can be a Darwing or a Voltaire, generational geniuses are a rare thing for a reason, and being intellectually gifted doesn't exclude you from finding beauty and sense in the mundane, it's not a binary thing.

For context, I believe the next scene or just a couple more is when he’s on his death bed. The beauty of this scene for me is the zeal for life he has just before death. It’s almost as if his spirit/body/mind or whatever you call it gave him one last chance to rejoice and feel triumphant, and simply enjoy being alive and taking in even the most mundane of objects like a shrub. He saw the beauty of breathing one moment to the next.
