Hi Peter, I met you at Braeside some time back. I am just starting to do wildlife videos, as you have inspired me to give it a go. I have a Rode Video NTG for on camera fitment that I haven't really used yet. Is the Zoom H1n something that would be complimentary to it, or stand alone?

Hey mate, great to hear from you. Hope you’ve been well! The NTG is a decent shotgun mic and the Zoom H1n would be a great complimentary piece in my opinion. I use that as well and I think it’s one of the best at that price point. Cheers

Hello Peter, I am a videographer and want a close-up adapter for my Canon 85mm 77mm for close up eye shots. What can you advice?
@peterviragphoto15 күн бұрын
Hey there. If you use a close up lens like the NiSi 49mm for example, just make sure you have an adapter ring that would make it compatible. You also need to do a bit of research and find out if there is any vignetting for the particular lenses you intend to use the close up lens with. In terms of image quality I wouldn’t worry as I have used both the dcr 250 and close up lenses from NiSi for video work and they were exceptional. Cheers

Please advise what settings for apperture/shutter speed and ISO should be used when I use camera Canon 5D Mark III+ Canon Macro 100 mm EF 1:2.8 L USM+ Raynox DCR-250? It is so hard to find a focus, it is like never focusing. Thank you!
@peterviragphoto21 күн бұрын
Hey Agne. It really depends on the power of your external flash, but for single shots I found the EF 100mm is still quite sharp at f/14 just to maximise depth of field without much diffraction, the shutter speed that I normally use varies between 1/80-1/200s and the ISO ranges between the base ISO of 100 and normally wouldn’t wanna push it over 1000, but the signal to noise ratio is pretty good on a FF camera like the 5D III, and post processing in LR with the use of Denoise AI you can push it much further without losing much image quality. Hope this helps as a starting point. Cheers

Very good. I have a possible idea for another video of you. I rented the R7 because it supports focus bracketing with electronic focusing lenses (it also does in-camera stacking, but I prefer to do that outside of the camera). But I ran into a problem with HAND HELD focus bracketing, which is that the camera seems to only do full electronic shutter and 30 frames per second in that mode, even if you put in other shutter modes, and then the pictures do not align well in the stack. The alignment problem may be the result of rolling shutter effects caused by small movements when shooting hand held,. You definitely cannot use an external flash when doing focus bracketing either since no flash can keep up with that frame rate. I'd be curious to see if other people have a problem with hand-held focus bracketing with this camera. I have no problem with regular dslrs, by the way, and the R7 does great focus bracketing from a fixed mount and continuous lighting. Cheers!
@peterviragphoto22 күн бұрын
Hi Mark. Yes, using external flash at that frame-rate is tricky because of relatively slow recycle speed. I have tried the focus bracketing with strong continuous light in the field but it’s not optimal either. Have a look here: cam.start.canon/en/C005/manual/html/UG-04_Shooting-1_0150.html# Experimenting with continuous shooting priority mode when choosing flash mode on compatible speedlites might be the way to go. I rarely shoot deeper stacks when in the field but going to try it in the near future. Thanks again for your feedback. Have a great day!
