On this song and the whole of The Thorn EP it's like Wilhelm Richard Wagner on LSD

The stars that shine And the stars that shrink In the face of stagnation the water runs Before your eyes Swallowing diamonds A cutting throat Your teeth when your grin Reflecting beams on tombstones A jamboree of surprises Playing Russian roulette Or the lucky dip A clenched fist to your heart Coal dust on your lungs A silver tongue for the chosen one Heavy magnum in your side Or a bloody thorn Skating bullets on angel dust In the dead sea of fluid mercury Baby piano crys Under your heavy index and thumb Pull some strings-let them sing The stars that shine And the stars that shrink In the face of stagnation the water runs Before your eyes Dazzle it's a glittering prize Dazzle it's a glittering prize Before your eyes It's a glittering prize The stars that shine And the stars that shrink In the face of stagnation the water runs Before your eyes

It's actually a track called "Baby Piano" they had for the sessions from the album (there is a reference in the lyrics). It actually came out on the extended "Hyaena" from 2009.

I wish the ending lasted a good 2 minutes more with just the strings calmly fading out the way you'd picture a sunset giving way to the night.

I think this might be my favourite song of theirs. The instrumentation and Siouxsie's voice have such a gorgeous cinematic sound that takes my breath away.

I think it's probably their most dramatic, with the kettle drum like percussion. Kiss them for me and swimming horses are right up there with this one imo.

Thankyou for posting- so many on YT leave out the orchestral start. This is The Banshees best by far. Who knew something so colorful could come out of punk?
@nkwhite9 жыл бұрын
No problem! What kills me is that you can't get the full song with the additional verse on CD. I'd love to hear it without the crackles, pops I couldn't clear through Audacity, and my own amplification-mixing. I'm an RN, dammit, not a sound engineer! ;)
@nkwhite9 жыл бұрын
nkwhite excuse me, I meant "additional chorus"...
@davidtomlins97596 жыл бұрын
Magix audio cleaner is very good at filteringredients out popsychology clicks & crackling.....it can even remove the the rumbling sound of the spinning platter in the background that you often get on transfers.the only thing it's not good at removing is hissing.....it only distorts the sound if you try to remove the hissing on records or tapes
@TheMercury-135 жыл бұрын
I get it, the need for audio perfection, but personally I don't mind a few small crackles; reminds me of the 1st time I heard it, transports me :)

*Punk was about opening the full spectrum, breaking free of the barriers; anyone & everyone could have a go at music, art, whatever. Even women. The genuine talent was bound to transcend the 'trend' aspect, & continue evolving, for our benefit... Love the 'Banshees.

Funny Major Kong had no idea he was causing the end of the world, this was the crazy general's fault. Kong thought he was just doing his duty to do whatever he could to protect his home and the people he loves. Kind of like what we did to Japan, and I stand by it.
