1978 and the beginning of his voice returning. He soon will be back in the studio in ‘79 recording Trilogy and N.Y. New York. From 1980 through the mid ‘80’s Frank gave us some truly great concerts. Fun years for Sinatraphiles…

Someone said once that towards the end Sinatra was only 40% of what he used to be, but that 40% was better than most people will ever be.

I have owned his double live album Sinatra at The Sands for over 50 years now. The best show in my opinion ever recorded. To this day I still play it on my Garrard A70 Turntable from made in the early 60's. It's always a treat to listen to him this way..

It´s all about loving american style- just go to an other box : Charles Trenet. I liked FS as most do, but here in this performance it is all about doing the same thing with the same jokes with the same voice in the same perfect style. I´m an old crack and through all those years I got closer to the central point- where is the human point, the clou ?
@taf44tt8io18 күн бұрын
Swing style had spread worlwide, mostly in Europe during and after WW II were Charles Trenet in France or Renato Carosone in Italy, had been inspired by the syncopated rhythym that gave more pep to their romantic melodies. Among some famous tunes we have "Autumn Leaves" or "Beyonf the sea". Sinatra made what some other great artists did, I mean give to the audience what the audience wait for. So Rolling Stones, had sung thousands of times SATISFACTION or ANGIE. Still, other, like Miles Davis, never put their shoes in the same footprints. About the human point, maybe read some philosopher could help rather than listen a crooner. It could have a particular sound and silence. 🙂

Wow, he did NOT like Hearst or Dorothy Kilgallen who was murdered investigating the Kennedy assassination. “the broad with no chin” Sinatra says. She must not have been in the hidden hand but Frank and Orson Welles and Mayor Bradley were deep in the coven.

Sinatra got his taters and cotton reversed, but otherwise a great performance. Ray Charles' version at Sinatra's 80th birthday celebration is just as good. It's hard to compare the two because they come from very different musical traditions.

Anybody that able to see any entainer in Las Vegas was an sputacular show..... My uncle was able to play on Frank Sinatra albums an in Vegas he my uncle Sam was just happy to be working an getting payed for the full honor plus an hour privilege. To be included in the coldest band ever he said....

This is OK. But the 1967 version blows this one out of the water. Sinatra was not in the greatest voice in 74. Also don't care for this arrangement at the end. The Nelson Riddle arrangement is far superior.

Frank gets good after the first drink. He smokes a cigarette, makes fun of Italians, slaps the music director on the back, calls the bassist a "pickpocket", and improvises a lot of the lyrics. Classic.

A tremendous voice on vinyl and high fidelity equipment-- not this version, the song itself, and much of his other work, as well.
