Greetings from David Chan Malaysia. I will be 71 yrs old on this 26/10/23. My friend is in Japan ( Ehime) and he is helping to buy a Jo for me. Is 71,too late/ old to learn this Jo-jitsu?Watched this video and it is good for me to learn,step by step. What is your advice?Another friend of mine is into Jo for many years but not graded. So, I will be meeting him, once a week.(40kms apart). Appreciate your advice.Yoroshiku Onegai Shimasu.

Hello my friend from Malaysia, yes it is a very good idea to keep your body moving and staying active in both mind and body. I am grateful you like this liking exercise. It is the basics of all the jodo kata and also the most practical techniques too. No need to think about complex forms as we are not trying to impress anyone but only to strengthen our body and mind. You can use the slow motion to reduce the play back speed and analyze the movements and learn it one by one. Please keep in touch and I would be happy to help if you shall need any advice.

Did everyone pass in your group?

Alas no.... A few of my friends failed. For 5th Dan the failure rate is a lot higher.
Thank you. The lad is still waiting for his eligibility to grade for 1st kyu next year. Let’s hope he keeps it up.

@@Alanhock75 Yes. We have 2 cameras rolling on the day. Camera A which was set up for jodo will have a better shot. Camera B for iaido was filmed by the young lad who was doing the sheets., which explains the lack of stability. I will wait for the jodo grading officer to decode his video footage and upload group 2 of the 4th dan West Midlands grading. Please bear with us for a little longer. In the mean time I have produced an interim grading officers report with statistics. Please check BKA facebook page or my own facebook page. Regards Ed

Hi, I was at the Northen seminar in Seaham. We talked actually, I took my 1st Kyu. Do you have videos from then you can upload of the higher grades?
@EdUmeyama Жыл бұрын
Hello Brad unfortunately I wasn't able to get a good shot of the grading at the Northern Seminar. Also being the grading officer I cannot go and fiddle around the camera. So the grading video was not well focused and people are out of the frame half way through their kata. T_T The higher grades did not do that well as no body passed the forth Dan and 3rd Dan pass rate was 75%. So I am assuming they might not be amused to see their performances made public. I will upload the higher grade videos next time round when more people passed.

@EdwardLeeUmeyama All good points, completely understand. Have a good Christmas and perhaps see you at the Spring seminar. Thanks.
Yes we were so happy that we were all jumping up and down to see him back. It has been a hard journey to restart the dojo, but so far we seem to be doing it right. (Touch wood)
