I remember playing this so long ago. I wondered what it became. Thanks for digging it up. It's almost like archaeology really. My experience was good. Like, the game was fairly fun, I racked up a dozen hours at least. I even played in one of those tournaments at some point, and let me tell you we got completely wrecked. It was as you said: the other team had farmed the shit out of the game and gotten way more upgrades than we had. Specifically, there was a potion item in the game that, iirc, could be used to gain health and mana regen. That item could be made stronger outside of games, with resources you got from playing, and when you'd buy it in a game (or maybe it was given by default at the start?), you'd get your own upgraded version. Well, in that tournament I played in, all the best teams had maxed it. We hadn't. The match we lost, we basically couldn't do shit lol. The enemy team would heal through all our damage with their upgraded potion items. Anyway, game was fun. It didn't stand a chance vs LoL or DotA, but it could have found its public.

Just stumbled on this video and Atari recently announced that starting January they are restoring awesomenauts back to full content before shutdown/bankruptcy. Its nice to hear and hopefully they take some community feedback as the problems go far beyond this video - mainly into how Ronimo treated the game extremely casual-focused for balancing when the game was already too small and competitive for that to work, so a lot of balancing issues never got solved. Anyways Atari is giving me hopium for the game

Do you remember that MOBA by Microsoft that never left Beta? It was the first MOBA to reward supports for being supports. All roles were rewarded differently.

I remember this game whenever I look for another Let's play of Strife (the Doom engine game from the 90s)

A lot of the things the game claimed as differentiators back then were true, but league and dota eventually implemented those ideas. If you would have played strife back in 2015 you’d have seen it was actually a breath of fresh air. Strife is nowhere near one of the worst mobas ever, all of the negatives you’re pointing out are simply symptoms of the game being abandoned for nearly a decade. Frankly, the game was really nice on the initial launch and it seems like the brainpower behind it must have left the team shortly after. My guess is that the HoN team left and went to work for riot or valve and brought the few good ideas like rift herald and no purchased wards over to those games.

I loved playing strife, it was a refreshing break from league playing some new heroes in an easier game where you can noob stomp and do cool stuff. Playing Carter and blind sniping people in fog of was delectable. I’m glad you made this video, I didn’t even know strife was still playable. Years ago I tried to get back into it and found it was gone :(

Game might come back, probably not. TL;DR Nothing is promised, but one of the devs has a temporary server up, and has the ability to push updates and access to the assets now. It's not a full team or anything. Could probably use some playtesters and feedback. Just don't get your hopes up and enjoy what it is. Join their official discord. yo the game is back

The money collecting mini-game is to give the player something to do while waiting to respawn. The actual amount earned is small and doesn't break the balance. Because Awesomenauts was targeting a more casual audience, they tried to smooth out the barriers to entry. New players, who ostensibly would die a lot, would spend a lot of time respawning.

This game is insanely fun and definitely deserves more love.

The characters being locked behind the expansions were only while it was in beta. In the game before Ronimo was bankrupt you could just unlocked them with the games in game currency, awesomecredits

Played it from the start untill like 4 years ago (got over 1800 hours on steam). Since then ive been online here and there, but the player base is suuuper small. Would love it if they bring it back and can make it more popular again. BTW, being a Leon main over all the years: Pinot Noir was one of the first picks i would get. The healing over a short period is insane, especially when you go stealth often and fool the enemy. You get such an health advantage over the enemy and also you have to return to base less quick.

I enjoyed Predecessor. Then I got two terribly matchmade Games and the League Trauma came up. Matchmaking and Anti Smurf Measures are the most important things in a moba alongside the general feel of the game.

It could run on a potato and the game wasnt actually bad I think you just dont like the game But your right about why lock characters behind expansions and I guess they did things differently back then i remember having tedmcpain and it wasnt really over powered but in some aspects it was also ayla was one of my favourite characters. The cubes are solar the currency of the game

Predecessor is the best version of paragon, and as of right now it better than paragons last few months alive. They is still work to be done with jungle and minions, but the balance and gameplay are top tier. Compared to smite it’s at least 5x better.

2:20 you don’t want a tutorial for a moba ? Are you stupid imagine someone who never played a moba before just going directly in a standard game and then ruining it for everybody because they don’t know how shit works. Leage of legends has a tutorial as should every other moba have one.

I would love for you to do a update on this game in the future. Just so people can see what its like today.

My 2 cents on the monitization: I always felt the game never made enough money so the dev were never able to reinvest enough to keep the game relevant. Anything in this game is so cheap, especially the skins and the Expansions were all pretty reasonable price as well.

Played 1 game of predeccesor had 2 players AFK in the spawn was then trapped in the game for 20 minutes unable to even leave, uninstalled that garbage

Watching this video 5 months after this video aired, they’ve updated the game and added another armor type (not that cool though), and some other small updates, it’s not perfect but the game deserves some more love.

Actually its playable with beta branch/old patch. Uses steam for matchmaking. For me, it takes not that much time to get a match. A few players still there :). Hope, they delete it from steam forever because i cant stop playing it :D. best moba in my opinion. Skolldir's Theme = Best one :D

It was announced recently on Atari's podcast that they plan on bringing the servers back soon! I can't wait to play peak once again!!

I used to play this game on my crappy laptop with mostly lag for almost 100 hours, it was a great part of my childhood and I love this game a ton. Im sad that the servers are down as I wanna play it again, relive my childhood again. I hope Atari revives the game and keeps it as it is as this game is awesome (no pun intended)

I played predecessor just yesterday and i got a 1 day ban from the game because i did not choose my character within the 30 second time limit. I was trying to read the character abilities because somebody took the player i use. Screw predecessor.

Lets be VERY clear. Paragon didnt die. It was killed. Epic killed it. Be it tencent wanting the compition gone, or epic putting more rescouces to Fortnite. Talk to anyone who played it. Theyll tell you the same story.
