Sarah Lancashire just blew her portrayal of Catherine Cawood out of the damn water. I just looove this woman. Such a superb actress.

These moments are why we can relate to Sarah ( Catherine) and feel her pain and all human emotions. Wonderful collection from the series..

I can't believe that a year ago I wanted to watch this series but it seemed boring from the trailer. two weeks ago I gave it a chance. IT'S A MASTERPIECE, a must watch!❤

This kind of has a Fargo feel to it, it looks pretty good.

You can see that "Mare of Eastown" with Kate Winslet, is an attempt to copy the show into a US format (which i must say it does quite well) but M of E. will always be a derivative of Happy Valley and is in no way original. Winslet is a less convincing working class hero than Sarah Lancashire but that show does very successfully translate the feel of the setting of Happy Valley to a US audience unfamiliar with Yorkshire and looking to define what an old industrial town in Yorkshire would look like in the US rustbelt. For Americans, i would recommend watching MoE first to get a feel of the type of community and social structure Happy Valley is set in and then watch Happy Valley, always with rust belt Pennsylvania & New Jersey in your mind. Although it doesn't and can't replicate the unique rolling hills, moorlands and green Yorkshire countryside ( "Gods own country" )

A show worthy of its praise and the main three characters give us a masterclass in TV drama. The weakness for me, if i had to give any criticism is the supporting cast (aside Lancashire,Norton & Finneran, all excellent). The wider cast are soap characters and unfortunately the script and ditection given to them ranges from awkward to banal at times and one or two of them are not the best in their profession. I find this with many BBC shows (line of duty for example) and this can take you from one moment watching something as good as the Shawshank Redemption to suddenly a mundane mid week episode of EastEnders. This became more and more apparent as the series progresses, with some clips of season 3 being almost a parody (the drug dealing pharmacist subplot is an example).

47 and going to retire? Geesh in the US we can’t retire in the federal service until 62 or 67 if you want more money. She also looks like she’s 60 (I think she’s actually 58) but she’s playing a 47 year old? The writers took some creative license there.

Sarah is brilliant ... unfortunately, however, in California we can only get a fraction of these performances ... we can't even view Happy Valley Series Three as yet.
