It’s shady. Very old generational way to say you’re different and I don’t agree. Basically saying I don’t agree with this path because it’s not what I’m used to. Usually backhanded shade. Men with earrings or men wearing long womanly hair. “Men in my day didn’t look like that, must be something in the water…” (that makes them think this is normal)
